Possibly:
-no power to the fuse
-broken wiring between the fuse and the switch
-broken wire between switch and bulbs
-bad connection of terminals at the switch
-bad connection of termnals at the bulbs
-no ground at lamps
-faulty brake switch
Suggested way to figure out what is causing the problem:
-use voltmeter to see if there is power coming to the fuse
-check for power to the switch (probably located near the brake pedal)
-check for power on both sides od the switch with the pedal depressed
-check for power at the bulbs with pedal depressed.
-check resistance across the bulb to be sure the filament is not broken
internally
-check resistance between ground terminal of bulb connector and a known good ground (frame, clean metal, or trunk latch)
I just had my Daewoo Leganza brake light switch replaced. It goes under the brake pedal. and now my brake lights work fine.
There is a switch behind your brake pedal called a "Stop Light Switch." You can get it from Autozone for like 7.00 bucks. We just had to do that to my 2001 Leganza, the brake lights all stopped working and found out that what what it was. All you have to do is unscrew one bolt and pop the old one out and slide the new one in. It takes less than 5 mins.
Check your fuses.
dodge 2001 Dakota brake lights won't burn Check the fuses. If the fuses are okay check the brake light switch.
Check bulbs, fuses and brake switch in that order.
There are no extra fuses for your trailer lights. If you have the towing package (and you do) the trailer lights run through your regular fuses (tail, brake, turn).
Working brake lights are important for safety reasons while driving. It is important to check all of the wiring, if the brake lights are not working and the fuses and bulbs have been checked.
You probably have a faulty brake light switch
It could be a blown fuse. Tail lights and brake/turn are on separate fuses. Apparently there is not a ground problem since brake/turn works OK.
Brake light switch ?
check fuses, check brake light switch behind brake pedal.
Check your fuses. See owner's manual for location and assignment of fuses.
