if your talking about mongol invasions into the eastern empire then that was because of economic reasons, but as for the Germanic invasions the Roman Empire had been taken their territory for years and when the Romans had over expanded and where at their weakest one tribe went against them and won their land back......this showed that Romans could lose then of course an army of barbarians made there way to Rome and sacked the city twice

It was due to population pressure on the land. There had been widespread migrations in Europe north of the empire due to insufficient land for the increasing population. A further squeeze was created by the invasion of the area around Hungary by the Huns form Asia. Eventually, a number of Germanic peoples crossed into Gaul and spread to Spain. They sought land to settle, not the destruction of the empire. However, their invasions contributed to the fall of the empire.
