if your talking about mongol invasions into the eastern empire then that was because of economic reasons, but as for the Germanic invasions the Roman Empire had been taken their territory for years and when the Romans had over expanded and where at their weakest one tribe went against them and won their land back......this showed that Romans could lose then of course an army of barbarians made there way to Rome and sacked the city twice
