Chihuahuan Desert

A small area of southeastern New Mexico and extreme western Texas, extending south into a vast area of Mexico.

Great Basin Desert

The northern three-quarters of Nevada, western and southern Utah, to the southern third of Idaho and the southeastern corner of Oregon. According to some, it also includes small portions of western Colorado and southwestern Wyoming. Bordered on the south by the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts.

Mojave Desert

A portion of southern Nevada, extreme southwestern Utah and of eastern California, north of the Sonoran Desert.

Sonoran Desert

A relatively small region of extreme south-central California and most of the southern half of Arizona, east to almost the New Mexico line.

The southwesten United States' most famous desert is the Mojave (pronounced 'mo-HAW-vee'). Portions of the Sonoran and Chihuahuan deserts were legally ceded to the US from Mexico as part of the Gadsden Purchase.

• New Zealand has the Rangipo on the North Island Volcanic Plateau.
• In the Middle East, there is Arabian Desert of the Arabian Peninsula, Dasht-e Kavir of Iran, Dasht-e Lut Salt Desert in Iran, the Maranjab in Iran, the Judean Desert of Israel and the West Bank, the Negev in Israel, the Ramalat al-Sab 'atayn in Yemen, and the Wahiba Sands in Oman.
• In North America, there is the Great Basin Desert in Nevada, the Mojave in California, the Chihuahaun in New Mexico, and the Sonoran in the US and Mexico.
• In South America, there is the Atacama of Chile and Peru, the La Guajira Desert in Columbia, the Monte Desert of Argentina, the Patagonia in Chile and Argentina, the Peruvian Desert of Peru and Chile, and the Sechura along the coast of Chile.

Arizona (The entire Southern region of the state from Camp Verde, AZ down to the Mexico Border) Temperatures here reach well over 115 degrees F in the summer time

NEVADA (Las Vegas and surrounding region) Northern Nevada is not Desert

St. George, UTAH is the only area in Utah with Desert, as it borders Arizona and Nevada 20 miles away.

NEW MEXICO - (parts of south western New Mexico) Albuquerque and down is desert, nothing like Arizona though.

Tropical deserts occur between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricon so do not occur within the continental United States. However, the Chihuahuan Desert and the Sonoran Desert both extend south of the United Staes into the tropics.
