According to the general books of Islamic history the conquest of Spain is attributed to Tariq b Ziyad and Musa b Naseer in 711 - 712 C.E. in the time of the Umayyad Caliph Walid b Abdul Malik. According to Tabari, Spain was conquered some sixty years earlier during the caliphate of Uthman.

The Ummayad Caliphate was overthrown by the abbasids. The Abbasids murdered all the memebers ofthe Ummayyads they could lay hands on. A young Prince of Umayyads - Abdu Rahaman -I - escaped and went to his Berbar Uncles in Africa and by and by conquered African cities and then established Caliphate in Spain.
