Which of the following do many historians consider to be Hitler's biggest mistake in world war 2?

Declaring war on the USA after Japan declared war on America. Germany declared war on America hoping Japan would declare war on Russia. Since Japan did not declare war on Russia (Russia would later declare war on Japan), Germany did not have to declare on America. If Germany had not declared war on the USA, America would have difficulty in declaring war on Germany (although USA and Germany naval vessels in the North Atlantic were shooting at one another in 1941). If Germany had not declared war on the USA, then Hitler would not have had to face the military men and equipment of America. Although Russia fought the majority of land battles against Germany, it was American men and equipment that helped Russia and Britain and other Allied nations to defeat Germany.

Which counties invasion led great Britain and France to declare war on Germany?

Actually, none. Really quickly, it went like this: 1. Austria declared war on Serbia. Austria believed Serbians had helped kill the heir to the Austrian throne; Austria and Serbia already disliked each other. 2. Russia declared war on Austria. Russia was allied with Serbia. 3. Germany declared war on Russia and France. Germany was allied with Austria; Germany also knew that Russia and France were allied, so they jumped the gun and declared war on France knowing France was coming. 4. France declared war back. England is tricky. Technically they waited and did not declare war on anybody until about a week later when Germany attacked Belgium (Germany's plans involved going through Belgian land to attack France). Now I see that this was listed under World War I and World War II. I answered it based on World War I (where I first found the question). If talking about World War II, those two countries declared war after Germany invaded Poland.

Russia was part of the Triple Entente who included Russia, France, and Britain. Russia did not on it's own declare war on Germany in WWI. WWI started because of the 3 rising issues in Europe, nationalism, imperialism, and militarism. WWI official started in 1914 because on June 28, 1914 a royal couple from Austria-Hungary were shot in Sarajevo, Bosnia. Starting the major European powers to divide themselves into two groups.
