Seaports and railroads were built primarily to transport the rich Natural Resources from the Latin American interior to seaports, with the objective of shipping such resources onto their respective home countries.

For example, the first railroad in the Latin American mainland was built in Argentina in 1855 with the help of the British Empire, to transport meat, grain and lumber from the Argentinean highlands into Buenos Aires and then shipped out to England.

Another example is the Panama Canal Railway, which was built by the US Government before the Panama Canal was built, also circa 1855. The rail line was used to transport cargo loads from the Atlantic to the Pacific and vice-versa.
