NOT RECOMMENDED! It will turn the amp on, and everything may work for the time being, but do not forget, you have WILDLY differing Amperage ratings between a REMOTE/ACC wire and a power distribution wire. The full 12V cable powering your amp will be limited by the fuse you have set next to your battery (for instance 100A). Let's say you draw at Mid-Peak 70A, you'll be sending 70A of power through your Remote Wire into your amp. The Remote/ACC cable is ONLY MEANT to be ran at 0.3A!!!! ZERO POINT THREE AMPS, not 70 or 100 or even 150AMP (for higher end systems). You run the extreme risk of damaging your components and also starting a fire in your car while you are running the amp. I would NOT recommend this unless your insurance covers faulty electrical fire not installed from factory, which I can guarantee you it won't. Yes. As long as it is a switched power source so that the amp shuts-off with the ignition. The remote turn-on wire is usually connected to a dedicated wire from the radio specifically intended for this purpose, and on some older radios you can use the power antenna signal wire, but on most newer units, this wire has no power when using any function other than the tuner.

EDIT: Who ever wrote the above has no idea what they are talking about. You could hook your remote wire directly to the battery and nothing "WILDLY" is going to happen. "Amps" or current draw is only effected by voltage and resistance. The resistance in the remote wire circuit within the amp and the 12vdc voltage from the battery are all that effect the current draw...in his example .3 amps. That number wont change even if a nuclear reactor putting out 12vdc was connected. The only reason you don't want to connect it directly to a fuse is that the amp will never shut off and will drain your battery.

EDIT.. ive used remote wires to the fuse box twice now n both times its blown..im only running a 1800 watt amp n a 12inch.. is it the fuse box causing this or what? help lol

How do you connect remote wire to amp into Pontiac grand am stock stereo?

The remote wire requires a 12 volt power source that comes on with the car. The easiest thing to do is to wire it into the fuse box...coordinate with the diagram to find a fuse that comes on when you start the car or turn the key to accessory, such as turn signals, windshield wipers, etc.... Pull that fuse out, put the bare wire into where the fuse goes and secure it with the fuse.

Why does my amp only work with the radio and not the CD player I have power to the amp with the FM but as soon as I turn on the CD player the amp looses power.?

What it is, is your power ant. wire is hooked to your remote(control) wire of the Amp.To fix this disconnect it and connect it to the remote(control) wire. If you dont have a output labeled as this connect it to the hot wire for the radio. (do not connect it the the constant hot wire there will be two different wires)

What does it mean when my amp for my subs won't turn on and everything is hooked up correctly?

probably something inside. but first check to see if you have your remote wire connect to a power source of some sort. and that your negative is grounded to something on the car that is indeed grounded. and check to make sure that your power wire is fully connected and that your power fuse is not burnt out.

How do you find the remote wire in the back of your CD player of a 98 Malibu?

Usually the remote wire is the blue wire. Although not all CD players have a remote wire. The easy way to find out if you're player has a remote wire is to go onto the manufacturer's website and check the spec's.

the remote wire goes into the back of the deck (head unit). it tells the amp to turn on when the deck is powered up, if you don't connect it it will continue to drain power from your battery.

Do you need to hook up the remote wire on your car amp?

Yes a remote wire is necessary. You must wire the remote wire from the amp to and ignition source of power (a component which turns on when the ignition in the car is engaged.) i.e. the radio. The remote wire signals for the amp to power on.
