If you live in Canada the Human Rights Act says no,not sure about U.S. laws.

this is from the HRA

Under the Canadian Human Rights Act, it is against the law for any employer, employee organization or provider of service that falls within federal jurisdiction to make unlawful distinctions based on the following prohibited grounds:

* race * national or ethnic origin * colour * religion * age * sex (including pregnancy and childbirth) * sexual orientation * marital status * family status * mental or physical disability (including previous or present drug or alcohol dependence) * pardoned conviction. Unfortunately the same Act does provide some leeway for employers.

From HRA

Exceptions

The Act provides for exceptions such as:

Bona fide occupational requirement

* A job may be refused to a person who cannot perform it safely, efficiently and reliably.

As you see,if the job requires activity that you will not be able to preform as your pregnancy progresses they can deny you the job.

Hope this helps

Can the employee rescind his acceptanace of an offer of employment?

I think it depends on what State you live in and if that State is an "at will" employer. You can contact the State Employment Agency, they should know. An employer can rescind an offer at any time for any reason or no reason. If you incurred costs by accepting the offer (like moving or quitting a previous job) the employer may owe damages, unless you lied about not being terminated.

Can an employer rescind job offer for a pending misdemeanor?

An employer can rescind a job offer for any reason it wishes. If you have incurred dollar damages you can prove - like moving costs - you can sue. You lose if you withheld from employer anything that would reasonably lead employer not to make the offer. Like a criminal conviction.

Are positive pre-employment drug test results reported to the employer if the applicant does not accept the job?

Due to the fact that an individual fills out an application, which most people have no idea that an application is actually a contract for employment, all forms of drug testing are reported to an employer and kept on file even if the applicant/candidate turns down the job offer. However the results are only kept on file for an extended period of time and will eventually expire. So if an applicant wants to be rehired or wants to reapply, the applicant should wait for a while until the original results expire.

Salary: How Much Should You Ask For?

With today’s economy, finding a job is difficult even frustrating but once you landed a job interview one question is guaranteed to come up which is how much money the applicant is desiring. A company is not going to offer you the highest salary, and many companies expect applicants to come back with a counter offer. It is important before a job interview to do your homework. Overemphasis on pay could discard the applicant so the best way to determine how much money is appropriate is to do the research and make a checklist. Some questions an applicant may ask themselves before, during or after an interview is does the compensation meet the applicant’s compensation needs? Depending on how badly a job is needed there are some factors to consider when deciding upon a salary. Does the job offer at least 10 to 15 percent higher then your recent salary? What does the benefit package include? Does the employer offer health insurance and if so does it cover dependents (if needed)? Does the employer offer a retirement plan? These are just some questions that may determine for an applicant exactly how much and appropriately how much an applicant should ask in regards to salary. The important thing to remember is not to panic when an employer asks the scary question of how much, instead try to avoid answering the question directly but simply say It is not about the pay but about the work. Consider turning the interview around on the employer and simply ask the employer what they have budgeted for the position or if the applicant must provide an answer be vague about the amount and simply state that your currently earning somewhere in the mid five-figures. Remember a job interview is like a artform, experience, skill and appearance all play a factor when interviewing and try not to give a specific number but instead provide a range because a range will give the applicant more room to negotiate.

Is it more advantageous for the applicant or the interviewer to bring up the subject of salary first?

There isn't a single answer to this question. It doesn't really do anyone any good to waste time with a personal interview if an employer won't or can't offer what a candidate expects.
