Yes slavery did exist in Africa prior to the presence of slavery in the Americas. Anyone who was banished from their community, any who were caught committing a crime or any prisoners of war were enslaved. Slaves were looked upon, not as property, but as investments that helped contribute toward the success of their owner's plantation. Some were eventually accepted into the family as extended relatives, and some had the hard labor jobs that the Americas were known for.

It was common practice in most if not all groups in Africa and everywhere else to raid other groups for slaves. Kill the men and take the women. In Africa, the tribes on the coast raided inland and sold those people to the slavers. Europeans bought the slaves, but other Africans sold them.
Yes there was. Many of the northern African countries, particularly Arabic ones, practiced slavery and some still do. I once knew a Nubian in Oman who had been brought there as a child slave from Abbysinia in the 1950's.
