Does the 1994 Mazda 626 with a five speed manual and a 25 liter v-6 have the same problems associated with the automatic 4 cylinder?

In a word, no. The manual transaxle was made by Mazda, and is a very good gearbox. The automatic was made by Ford, and..well, apparently you already know the bad news about those. I have the 5-speed, and at 174,000 miles, it still shifts clean and has the original clutch. The only maintenance has been a drain/fill and shifter bushing replacement at 110,000 miles.
