The easiest way to remove an old brake light switch(also called stop light switch) is to break it off. Simply wedge a screwdriver between the switch and the metal bracket and twist. It will pop right out. The switch has 4 ledges that lock the stop-light switch into place. It's very difficult to remove without breaking it.
More than likely the brake light switch is defective or out of adjustment.
The brake light may be blown (bulb) or your brake light switch might not be working.
There is no adjustment on 1984 thru 1989 carrera. There are 2 brake light switches which are wired in parallel and are located on the brake master cylinder.
inside light on dash will not go out when the ignition switch is off
The brake light switch is either stuck or out of adjustment. Adjust or replace if necessary. It is located on or near the brake pedal swing arm.Answermore likely, your brake fluid is low.Are you talking about the "brake" light on the dashboard.. or the brake lights on the back of the car?? First, if it's the dashboard light, you need to add brake fluid or possibly change the front brake pads since the fluid runs low when the brake pads run low. Secondly, if you are talking about the rear brake lights, it could be because the little rubber pad that depresses the brakelight switch on the brake pedal when you let your foot off is worn out (has a hole in it) and the plunger on the switch is poking through the pad (which is mounted on the pedal). I fixed this problem once by simply gluing/taping a dime on the pad which made a hard surface for the switch plunger to depress against. Just look under the dash at the brake pedal and you'll see what I mean.
on your brake pedal lever, its a switch, easy to remove ,just unscrew bolt and disconnect wire.
If only the right rear brake/signal light is effected it is not the fuse. Inspect the right rear brake/signal bulb, socket and wiring.
Go to your brake pedal, theres a switch attached to it,it may be stuck or it needs to be replaced. There is a rubber dampener plug that sometimes falls out of the pedal arm that leaves a hole where the pedal would normally depress the brake light switch that is attached to the lower dash.
its probably not a fuse at all, but it could be your brake light switch. its under the dash hooked to the pedal. I had to replace one on my 84 t-bird
you have to take off the dash cover witch has 5.5 size screws
The brake light switch is located on an aluminum air line junction block. The air line block is directly forward of the steering column on the cab side by the firewall. There is an access panel on the engine side of the firewall that gives you access for replacement.
It's by the break switch to the left of the break pedal.
