The most difficult part about this job is the spring in the upper hinge. To remove and replace this spring safely you will need a special tool so borrow, buy or steal one. Once you have the spring out remove the small retaining clips located on the end of each pin. Don't worry about trying to save the retaining clips for reuse, new ones come with the pin kit. remove one side of the rubber boot that the wires pass thru. Removing the wires is not necessary, there is enough slack in the wires to let you separate the door from the cab far enough to get the job done. Fold up a towel and place the towel on a floor jack pad. Place the floor jack under the aprox center of the door and make contact. Have a friend hold the top of the door to keep it upright after the pins come out. Drive the pins out with a long punch and hammer. The top pin drives out from the top down and the lower pin drives out from the bottom up. Once the pins are removed carefully slide door away from the cab a few inches having your friend keeping it upright. Using that long punch tap out the remaining bushings. Note that there are two size bushings on each pin. If you try to hammer the new bushings into place they will break, they are brittle. I use a small 5/16" nut and bolt with some washers and a spacer to press them in place. Once the bushings are in place, slide the door back into the cab and slide the new pins back in the same way the original pins came out. Tap them in the last 1/4" with the long punch and hammer. Replace upper hinge spring. Reinstall the rubber boot. In some cases where the pins have worn thru the bushings and into the hinge and you now have a oblong hole. The hole should be welded up and redrilled before installing the new bushings. Failure to do so will result with broken bushings in a very short time.

Replace the hinge pins and bushings.
How do you change the door hinge pins and bushings on a 2002 GMC 1500 pickup truck?"

My advice based on experience is to replace the entire hinge assembly.
To replace the door hinge pins on a 1997 Jimmy you will need to open the door up. Place two jack stands on the front and back of the door's length at the bottom portion of the door for support. Remove the damaged hinge pin with the proper socket. Place the new hinge pin in place and secure it.
The old door hinge pins have to be cut out with a torch on a 1989 F-150. Then, new hinge pins can be welded into place. This part might be available at an automotive salvage yard for a fraction of the cost of new hinges.
you might need to replace the hinge pins.. or the complete hinge
need to replace door hindge pins and bushing, how do we get door off safely.
Open door look at the hinge remove two pins holding it on and remove door place it on ground, pick up new door put pins back onto the hinge well holding door and you should be done.
Because the hinges are welded in place, replacing the hinge pins and bushings should restore the door back to original position.
From what I was told, from the guy at the auto store, you can't. You have to replace the entire bracket.
