REMOVAL & INSTALLATION IGNITION SWITCHRemoval Remove lower instrument panel trim panel. Remove 2 steering column-to-dash/brake support nuts and lower steering column. Remove screws holding ignition switch to column and lift switch off of lock rod. First remove Black harness connector, then remove White harness connector from switch. Installation1.Move position slider of switch to ACC position. Starting from alignment hole end of switch, positions are as follows: ACC, OFF-LOCK, OFF, ON, and START. START position is spring loaded. 2.Position switch onto actuator rod and loosely install switch to column bracket. Turn ignition key to ACC position and hold it there. 3.Push switch slightly down column to remove slack in rod. Tighten switch hold-down screws. Reconnect the White then the Black harness connector. 4.Turn ignition key to test all positions and make minor adjustment if necessary. 5.Install column to dash/brake support and install trim panel. LOCK CYLINDER Removal1.Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove horn/trim cover retaining screws from back of steering wheel. Remove steering wheel. Disconnect horn wiring. On models with round horn button, pull button upward and remove horn components. 2.Remove steering wheel retaining nut and vibration dampener. Pry retaining snap ring from steering shaft groove and slide snap ring toward compressor. See Fig. 1 . 4.Unscrew and remove Compressor. DO NOT remove snap ring without using a compressor tool. 5.Remove hazard warning switch knob from side of column by pushing inward on knob and turning counterclockwise. 6.Remove turn signal switch retaining screw. Remove turn signal/wiper switch rod. 7.Disconnect wire harness connector on bracket at lower end of steering column. Remove 3 turn signal switch retaining screws. Pull switch outward toward end of shaft. Ensure NOT to dislodge dimmer switch rod. 8.Insert paper clip below retainer so that retainer is flattened. Using needle nose pliers, remove key warning buzzer switch and contacts as an assembly. See Fig. 2 . Remove lock cylinder retaining screw. 9.Insert ignition key into lock cylinder and turn to ON position. Pull out lock cylinder. Installation To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure that lock cylinder bottoms in bore and that it engages into gear for ignition switch rod by turning key. Fit warning buzzer in place, with contacts separated.
