You need to find a suitable place to put another sensor. See the link. It is also important to connect the wiring properly.
the coolant temperature sensor is faulty. It will need to be replaced
There are two separate sensors that play here. the "coolant temperature sensor" and "coolant LEVEL sensor". I suggest confirming which of these was replaced, as it is very common for them to be confused. likely you will find the coolant sensor that was replaced was the one on the engine (temperature); The LEVEL sensor is mounted either in the coolant resivoir or in the radiator. Probably just need the proper sensor replaced.

Be careful there is a temperature coolant switch mounted next to the thermostat housing. I thought this was the sensor and replaced it by mistake. There is another sensor.
You need to check coolant temperature sensor and the water pump.
The original coolant would have been "DexCool". The cooling system should be flushed and coolant replaced every 5 years or 100K miles if you use DexCool.
An engine coolant temperature sensor will usually need to be replaced when it is drawing too much or too little voltage. The sensor may also have a bad ground connection.
Your reservoir may be low. This will trigger the coolant light. It is often a malfunctioning sensor and nothing is actually wrong with the cooling system or coolant. It can be easily replaced. Alternatively you can leave it, but monitor your engine temperature and coolant level.

The engine coolant temperature sensor is usually on the front of the engine. The coolant temperature sensor will be in the vicinity of the thermostat housing.
