if it is the headlamp switch acting up you're better off replacing it. I've repaired mine but the fix doesn't last. replaced the switches on 2 different trucks (97 and 99). A simple job, 1 or 2 hours but the switches cost about 110 dollars. It is usually the wire to the headlamps that gets loose causing a high resistance connection and heats up enough to burn the plastic. good luck
A short in either the multifunction turn signal switch or a short in the wiring harness going to the switch.
If you get sparking in an electrical switch there is a loose connection or short in the circuit. The switch should be repaired or replaced.
any short in the electrical system will have an effect on the charging system
No, once the switchis openedthere is no longer any voltage in the circuit to short out against.
Possibly bad wiper motor, bad park switch, or bad wiper switch. Electrical short also possible.
Short to power in the horn circuit, relay stuck in the closed position, stuck horn switch.
there seems to be a short in the electrical system, i would start by checking the heater switch,
No, once the switch is turned off the circuit is de energized. A de energized circuit can not be shorted out to create a fault.
Theoretically, yes. If you take into account the time the time and effort involved (not to mention the chances of a short developing) you would be far better off spending the $100 or so and installing it yourself
1996-2000 Honda Civics have an inherent problem with the Multifunction switch that controls wiper operation. If the "OFF" position means with the car running, and the wipers turned off, the switch is probably bad. The switch is located in the steering column, and is approx. $250 to repair, depending on where you take the vehicle. If the wipers continue to run even when the car is turned off you likely have a short to power/short to ground in the electrical wiring to the wiper motor itself because the ignition switch switches power off to the wipers when it is turned off. I would suggest taking the car to a trusted garage to get it looked at. 99% of these problems on 96-00 civics are the multifunction switch... If you are mechanically inclined and somewhat patient you could probably save yourself $150 and do it yourself, do some investigating and see if you feel comfortable with the procedure. Good luck, ASE certified Technician
Sounds like the signal/4 way switch has a short.
You probably have a short in your electrical system. Also the fuse may be burnt out on the horn.
