If you want to remove the wiper arm, first make sure the arm is parallel to the bottom of the windshield, and not stuck mid-cycle, by turning it on and letting it cycle up and down a few times. If it's broken, you might need to lift it away from the windshield and stand it up so it doesn't scratch the glass, it might be easier too. There is a small tab at the base of the arm, which locks it on the spindle. Just push down on the base of the arm, pull the tab out, and pull up on the base of the arm. It should come off. Don't force it. Installation is the same. Make sure it's parallel to the bottom of the windshield.
