Get someone to turn the key while you gently tap the starter. If it runs, but doesn't make contact, tap it while it's running. If that doesn't work, take it out and lube it with a tiny bit of white lithium grease. DON'T use axle grease and don't use a lot. Clean the shaft with some gunk, first. WD-40 is no good, it just displaces water. It's NOT a lubricant.
If the starter does not run at all, get a new one.

A2. The teeth on a starter motor are at an angle, so as to spring free (disengage) when the motor fires. Sometimes this angle causes it to jam up. A simple tap on the gear spindle should allow it to free itself.
But this problem must be considered an indication of wear of the spindle.
you pull it off, sometimes they are stubborn and you just have to hit them off with a hammer
I've had a sticky starter solenoid do this to me. I just hit it with a hammer and it's been working since. But you could replace it too.
If the starter motor is spinning but not engaging it won't help to hit it with a hammer. The "starter drive" portion of the starter is shot. If all you get is a click or no noise at all, you might get lucky by hitting it, assuming the battery and all connections are good. This technique may work once or twice if the starter is at fault. The starter is located under the vehicle. You can follow the path of the positive battery cable from the battery to locate the starter. The positive battery cable will pass thru the starter solenoid on the inner fender then continue down to the starter.
you have a magnetic starter on this vehicle, the starter is no good, you might try to hit it with a hammer to get it to start.
sometimes starters get "stuck" take a hammer and hit the casing on the starter motor, if you can't get a hammer in there to hit it use a piece of metal pipe, place it against the starter and hit the other end
hit it with hammer
hit it with a hammer....
check the fuses in the cab and under the hood but if the fuses are good then take a hammer and smack the starter not to hard some times the silinod gets stuck and the hammer can get it unstuck but if you hit it to hard you HAVE TO GO BUY A STARTER.
The top speed of the Ford SVT Focus is 135 mph. If its upgraded fully to the max it can hit around 160 mph.
find the starter and try hiting it if that doesnt work by one at a local junk yard much jeaper then autozone
