How do you hook up trailer lights?
With some vehicles, you can purchase a WYE harness, which you install in the rear harness of the vehicle. You separate the provided plug and install the Y between the two plugs and the end of the Y becomes the trailer harness.
Other vehicles you have to splice the wires. Normally brown wire is the running lights, Yellow is the left turn, and Green is the right turn. White is the ground between the trailer and the vehicle, for a total of 4 wires.
What do I need to hook-up under the hood There is no power to the center pin for the trailer plug at the bumper I am trying to energize my new electric trailer jack.?
2002 avalanche the left turn signals dont work the indicator in side flashes but the front and rear lights dont I have checked the bulbs they are OK when I hook up a trailer the trailer lights work?
OK, if the left turn signal light flashes on the trailer when you hook it up I would pretty much think it has to be the bulbs or sockets are bad in your truck. I'd put a new bulb in and seee what happens before anything else. If no help, pull one of the bulbs and put a test light in there and see if it flashes.
There are trailer light kits available on-line that contain an adapter necessary to connect the wiring. The adapter is determined by the make, model and year of your vehicle. Extra lights are also available should you need them. Instructions are available. Also the dealership where you are renting or purchasing your trailer will be able to help you with the hookup.
