one of the tell tale signs of crank angle sensor failure is the engine does not start straight away and may take some time to do so .Another way to tell is whilst cranking engine pour water over sensor notice how quickly the engine starts this problem is prevelant in late model holdens
Need to know the year, make and engine size of your vehicle.
It lets the computer know where the crank shaft is at all times, and yes it can cause a no start.
One symptom of a bad crank shaft sensor is the car having trouble starting. The car stalling and backfiring are other symptoms of a bad crank shaft sensor.
There is only one crank sensor fitted, you may also have a cam sensor. the crank sensor is located either around the bellhousing or around the front crank pulley. It either has 2 or 3 wires. It picks the signal off the revolving crank so look for a sensor in the block near flywheel.
The crank sensor is an important part of the engine wiring. Without it the engine does not know when to fire. There is no way to by pass it.
Dont know
No, the computer needs that sensor to know crank timing.
Need to know what size engine it has.
if your crank position sensor is bad you car or truck will not start because you will not have spark
You will have a no spark situation. Testing it with a volt meter is easy. Twist the crank shaft slowly by hand and watch volt meter. If there is voltage and no voltage the sensor is good. No readings sensor is bad
Need to know what year it is, engine size
I believe it is a Hall effect sensor so the best (and only way I know of) is to use an oscilloscope and look at the signal. It should be a square wave. The 3 leads are +5 volts, signal, and ground. You should get a pulse for 4 times for each rotation of the crank as there are 4 spikes on the edge of the pulley. Make sure the distance between the sensor and the spikes on the pulley are approximately .020 inches.
