Pack the oil pump with vasoline prior to assembly, then crank the engine with the fuel injectors and ignition disabled until there's measured pressure.

Alternatively:

The 3800 in FWD cars is not the old 3.8L RWD Buick motor. It's still an iron 90 degree V6 but that where the similarities end. The oil pump in a 3800 is a gerotor housed in the timing cover and priming isn't necessary, although prelubricaton is probably a good idea. A coating of gear oil works.

If this is a newly built or newly rebuilt engine, hopefully you remembered to use assembly lube appropriately. A good couple few seconds of cranking with the fuel pump disabled will prime the oil pump for you.

If you're feeling oldschool and want to "prime the pump" with Vaseline, go ahead, but remember that the vaseline is going to contaminate the ever loving shiate out of your oil, so once you get it started, you need to let it idle for about 20 minutes, then drain the oil out and fill it with fresh engine oil. Don't leave the Vaseline in there for a normal oil change interval because wax and glycerine aren't good engine lubricants.

How can you prime a LS1 engine with oil after sitting for a year?

Unplug the coils and crank the engine over until the oil pressure builds up.

Do you have to prime impeller to get water flowing through after changing?

Generally no. You do not want to run an impeller dry, so normally you will apply a light coat of grease to the impeller when you install it. On an outboard engine the impeller is on top of the gearcase and below the surface of the water so it will get water as soon as you start to crank the engine. On a sterndrive or inboard engine the pump can be located on the engine, but it is often mounted low (near the water level). If you crank the engine without starting it the impeller will "prime" itself.

Can you crank a jet ski out of the water?

Yes. You can crank and start a jet ski out of the water. However, without water, there will be no cooling for the engine, exhaust, and driveline. So generally it is not recommended to let the engine run more than a few seconds. Many people crank a jet ski out of the water to prime the fuel system prior to placing the jet ski in the water.

How do you prime a 1984 Volvo diesel engine?

Loosen all the fuel lines at the injectors. Crank the engine until you see fuel coming from all the loosened connections. Re-tighten the connections and crank the engine. It should start. Einar Petersen, Chief Engineer, U.S. Merchant Marine, Tampa, Fla. 813-469-7556

How do you prime fuel pump?

There is no reason to prime a fuel pump. If it is a electric pump, then just cycle the key a few times, It primes it's self. If it is a manual pump then just crank the engine until it picks up the fuel.

What factors affect the rotation in a DC generators?

Your question is unclear. Do you mean how the rotor of a d.c. generator is driven? If so, then its shaft is connected to a 'prime mover' which can be an internal combustion engine (petrol or diesel engine) or a turbine (steam, water, gas). The type of prime mover usually depends on the source of fuel available to operate that prime mover and whether it is fixed or portable.

How do you prime the oil pump a 1993 Honda Prelude Si?

A easy way is to either crank the engine over with the starter motor, without the coil being plugged in until oil pressure is obtained. If rebuilding an engine and you want to prime before completion just squirt oil into the oil pickup while the engine is upside down and turn the pump drive to lube the internals. This will help get pressure faster when it comes time to prime with starter motor when engine is in vehicle.

Pontiac 3.8 liter engine the oil pump is crank driveni packed it with vasoline and still cannot get the pump to prime Is there another way to prime it?

Remove the oil filter and fill it with new oil. If problem still persist, then remove oil filter and use a oil squirter to squirt oil into the oil filter mounting base hold adjacent to the thread. Other ways to prime the engine is to rotate the engine with the starter with the fuel shutoff and no spark.

What is the crank sensor in 1994 3000gt sl?

Measures the rotational speed of the crankshaft, and used by engine management systems to control engine timing and other parameters. Can be used in conjunction with a similar cam position shifter to monitor the relationship between the pistons and valves, which is important in variable valve timing, and is the prime source for engine speed in revolutions per second.. Can be mounted on crank pully, flywheel and sometimes the cranksft. What happen if the alternator is driven by a motor to generate electric power did it is cost effective?

Alternators are not only driven by turbines, they can be alternator can be driven by any prime mover -including 'motors' if necessary.
