two methods; one: disconnect the lower ball joint from the wishbone so the entire strut can pivot forward, put your wheel on and give it a swift jerk. two: use a large pry bar and pry against the inside c/v joint and the transmission body. the stub shaft has a small spring ring which needs to collapse in it's groove in order for it to come out. when re-installing it, make sure the stub shaft goes all the way in so the spring ring can expand and home the shaft in place. a word of caution: on some transaxles if you pull both shafts, the carrier could drop so do one shaft at a time or use a tight fitting round stick to hold everything so you can stab the shafts back in without having to fish around for alignment.
A sixteen-inch pry bar and a hammer worked for me.
The car has only one transaxle, AKA transmission, then no, you cannot remove the tranny without removing the tranny. If you mean without removing CV Axle or drive axle or Axle shaft or CV shaft (same thing) then the answer is still no. You cannot remove the transaxle without removing the drive axle/CV shaft.
To remove the driver side cv axle: place a large flathead screwdriver between the transaxle housing and the axle. Then place a chisel behind the screwdriver. The order will be: transaxle housing, chisel, flat screwdriver, axle. Then give the chisel a hit or two with a hammer and it should pop out with ease. I'm not sure about the passenger side axle but I think you may have to take off the pillow block that is bolted to the transaxle which the cv axle sits in.
ok quick remove axle nut then ya wanna split the control arm top or bottom (i remove from top easier)may need to remove brake caliper so the control arm will move out of the way to remove axle from wheel breaing then axle should pop out of the transaxle or you may need to pry it lightly from the transaxle the reverse process take about a hour maybe more depending on your level on expertice------- tools 32 mm socket i believe for axle nut ------ ball joint seperator for control arm-----assortment of metric sockets for caliper if removed--- hammer possibly if axle gives you trouble coming out of bearing---prybarpossibly for removing it from transaxle......good luck anything elese
You have to pull the entire axle. Take off the tire and wheel hub. unbolt the tie rod from the wheel hub. unbolt strut assembly from wheel hub. Pull transaxle drain plug to empty as much fluid as possible. Use a pry bar to remove the right side drive shaft from the transaxle. Note that some fluid will still leak, despite having drained the transaxle. use a screwdriver to remove the old seal. Moisten new seal with fresh transaxle fluid prior to installing. Install new seal with a seal installer tool and mallet, by gently tapping it into place. Reinstall axle by following steps in reverse order. Don't forget to replenish transaxle fluid with SPIII fluid!
The automatic transaxle fluid dipstick is between the engine and the battery ( the manual transaxle does not have a dipstick )
You have to remove the drive axle to replace the seal- you have to first remove the tire, then the brakes/caliper/rotor, large center axle nut, unbolt the tie rod end, unbolt lower ball joint, push end of axle through hub while pulling hub outward till you can shift the axle out of the hub. Then, use a pry bar between transmission and axle to pop axle out of transmission. Set aside and use a screwdriver to pry the seal out- evenly tap the new seal it with a soft face hammer and reassemble in reverse order. Make sure to tighten the large axle nut to 145* ft pd, torque.....
remove axle hub nut and tie rod to spindle connection. remove sway bar connection to control arm if present. pry/pound/press axle from hub, be careful not to damage threads on axle. Axle should hang loose at this point. Look for any bolts holding axle to trans, but should not be present on this car. Pry on inner part of axle between trans and axle end. Pry hard enough and it will pop out. Pound axle back in from outer end, be careful not to damage the axle and get splines lined up
By removing the outer hub from the axle and you put a pry bar between the inner axle and the C clip holding it in. The axle is really in there so use a huge screwdriver or pry bar.
The transaxle is the transmission on a front wheel drive car , it's bolted to the engine ( looking in the engine compartment from the front the transaxle is to the right of the engine )
The speed sensor connector is located on top of the transaxle, passenger side. It is next to the end where the CV axle goes into the transaxle.
remove axle nut, remove lower ball joint nut and separate, remove wishbone bolt at lower control arm. pull 4 wheel bearing bolts on back side of spindal if present if not pull strut assembly away from axle, if axle stuck in hub carefuly drive axle out of hub. after separated pry axle out of transaxle with a screw driver. reinstall new axle careful to engauge c clip located on trans axle end. reassemble the rest and make sure to tourque the axle nut to factory specs.
