It depends what the reason conditions are for the refilling. In all cases be sure that the engine has cooled down completely, before working on the cooling system. If you are just topping it up because the coolant overflow tank level has dropped completely with nothing left in it. Then you might want to remove the rad cap, and fill up the rad to the bottom of the filler neck. Replace the rad cap and fill the overflow tank. ++++++++++++++++ But if the level rizes up into the overflow tank when the engine is warmed up, you simply add the proper coolant directly to the tank. +++++++++++++++++++ If the coolant system has been flushed and cleaned, then use something like this procedure. With the radiator cap removed and the engine cooled down (the cap is on the passenger side of the rad), after making sure that the engine has cooled. Pour the proper coolant into this opening, until it reaches the bottom of the filler neck. Wait to see if the coolant level drops (it will, if you are starting with an empty radiator, because it gets air locked). This will happen within a minute or two. Continue adding coolant until its level doesn't drop anymore. Run the engine with out the rad cap on for a very short time (a couple of minutes at the most ), then shut it off and top up the level again. Now it is time to put the rad cap back on, and only partially fill the plastic overflow tank ( a little more than half full ). Run the engine and let it get up to operating temperature. Shut off the engine and let it cool off considerably(half an hour or more), and notice that the coolant level in the overflow tank changes up, then down, with in the time between when you started to let the engine begin warming up to operating temperature, and then letting it cool down. After it has cooled down, add coolant only to the overflow tank, providing it hasn't gone down until it is completely empty. You could stand by and watch that the level in the tank so that it doesn't drain out completely. If it looks as though it might happen, just add more coolant before it does happen.
