Actually, the dashboard top is integrated into the entire dash. You'll have to take the complete dash off to separate the "top" from the instrument cluster assembly... you'll be better off to just get an entire dash assembly from a junk yard and replace it. The dash doesn't come out easily, but it CAN be removed and requires disconnecting a fair number of electical, cable and vacuum lines, including the complete wiring harness and the steering wheel. www.lmctrucks.com has replacement tops for Dodge dashboards, I think they go over the top of your existing dashboard. I don't know if they have one for your truck, but you can check them out.
you unscrew the bolts underneath the dashboard by your feet. the size of the screw should be 8mm. then gently pry away the dashboard from the interior. good luck

Nope, the 96 and before Dakotas had a boxy dashboard. In 97 when they went to the rounder looking design for the truck the dashboard got the same rounded treatment.

I have recently removed a 1992 Chevrolet Silverado dashboard from a junkyard truck, and also my '92 Chevrolet Silverado dashboard from my fathers truck and installed the new one I removed from the junk yard truck...let me just inform you, it's not easy. Start at the bottom removing those screws and work your way up is my best suggestion.
The 1986 Ford F1 50 pickup truck dashboard is held in place with six retaining bolts and 10 retaining clips. Remove the retaining bolts and pry outward on the retaining clips.
