open tailgate. unclip the cables that hold tailgate level
they will unclip from the top anchor post without using any tools.then lift tailgate from left side so as tailgate hinge comes up from pivot point. then slide tailgate little to the left and you should have tailgate in your hands

First you need to remove the trim bezel around the handle on the outside of the tailgate. Then remove the three bolts on the inside of the tailgate,that hold the handle in place. Next remove the latching mechanism rods from the handle,and remove the handle from the tailgate.

Look under the left side and unplug the taillight connector. On the upper end of each support cable push tab and release cable. Remove bottom right side of tailgate by pulling it toward you. It is slotted and will pull out when the tailgate is at the correct angle. Once that is released slide the tailgate to the right to release the left side. One strong person can do this but two is makes it eaiser. Be careful it is heavy.
