1) Disconnect negative battery cable. Jack up right front of car. Be sure to protect yourself with jackstands and rear wheel chocks. Safety first! 2) Remove the engine undercover (plastic under engine protector) on the right side 3) Remove the right front wheel. 4) remove the right hand side inspection cover inside the wheel well. (I did not say this was a simple job.) 4a) Optional: Curse Nissan engineers for lack of foresight in maintenance. 5) Loosen the belt idler pulley (center of the pulley itself, I think its 14mm, but Do NOT loosend the bracket bolt) 6) Loosen the idler pulley tension (large, vertical nut above the idler pulley) 7) remove the belt. 8) replace with new belt. Install is opposite of removal. You may have to wiggle a bit to slip it on correctly, but be patient, it will go. To replace alternator: 9) get your butt under the car, fully supported on jackstands, and remove the 4 Air conditioner bolts 10)Slide the A/C compressor forward (don't drop it on your head!) 11) Disconnect the alternator harness connector (This may be tricky to do while mounted. If so, then with the help of a friend, remove the alternator following the steps below and remove the connection after the alternator is loose. DO NOT let the alternator hang by the wiring harness connections.) 12) remove the wiring harness bracket from the alternator. 13) Remove the alternator upper and lower bolts. Slide Alternator down and forward to remove. 14) Install is opposite of removal. Good Luck!
This will take you between 2-3 hours to do! I will suggest to buy 2000-2003 Neon Haynes repair Manuel You will need a 10mm wrench a 10mm,13mm, 14mm, & 15mm deep and regular sockets (1/4, 5/8, & 3/4 ratchets) a jack and stands PB Blaster 1: disconnect the negative battery cable. 2: loosen the upper alternator adjusting bolt and mounting bolt nut. 3: loosen the right front wheel lug nuts, raise the car and then remove the right front wheel. 4: remove the right front accessory drive belt splash shield. 5: loosen the lower alternator bolt. 6: remove the alternator belt. 7: disconnect the electrical connectors from the alternator (I suggest to wait on this). 8: remove the upper adjusting bolt and nut then the lower bolt & nut. 9: remove the lower alternator mounting 3 bolts. at this point turn the alternator sideways and remove the wires (push the red tab down until it slides and wiggle the connector). 10 : remove the alternator for under the car (this will take some time to get it out) before putting the new alternator in spray the lower bolt and nut with PB Blaster then the upper mounting nut bolt and adjusting bolt (it will make it easier to install).
Well you have to loosen up the belt by putting a socket and awrench on the tensioner and pull to release the tension of the belt. Then remove the cerp belt. Then there are two long bolts on the alternator remove them and the two wires and boom its out then repeat these steps backwords to put the new one on
In order to change the alternator on your Neon you will need a good rachet set and a torque bar. First step will be to disconnect the wiring, then move onto removing the 2 bolts on the top of the alternator. Once the adjusting bolts are removed, use a pry bar to push the alternator back and downwards. Once that is done, you should have enough room to get your torque bar in there to the bolt at the bottom of the engine. Get it loose a bit then remove the paasenger side tire and the plastic cover that is attached to the body of the car in order to give you acces to the bolt that you loosened earlier. Continue to get the bolt out from the paasenger side front wheel well. To reinstall is the easiest, just reverse everything. Goodluck
It's simple. Disconnect the negative terminal on the battery in the trunk. Insert a breaker bar or suitable wrench into belt tensioner to loosen serpentine belt around the pulley on the alternator. Raise the front of the car on jacks, ramps, or lift and undo the skid/belly plate underneath. Should be four or six bolts. Once that is removed you can access the two bottom bolts on the alternator. They'll be really tight. Might want to squirt them with some fluid that will help loosen them and let them soak for a while. Once these are removed there is one bolt up top and an electrical connector. Remove the connector and loosen the top bolt. Removal of the alternator is easiest up top. You'll probably want to remove any electrical connectors up top that might be in the way and you may have to push on the top radiator hose to get it through the space. Once it's out, you just do the reverse of what's been done and it's complete. Pretty simple and straight forward. You can buy a remanufactured alternator for about $150 (plus $60 or so that you'll get back by turning in the bad alternator) at an auto supply store and spend an hour or two (depending on you experience) doing the job.
try checking up on the internet on D.I.Y. websites they most of the time have step by step illistrasions on how to
Remove battery wires, then slacken serpentine belt, remove wires from back of alternator, then frame mounting bolts. Re fit in reverse order. Not a difficult job.
All you need to do is replace the sensor. It cost around $20.
There are three main steps behind replacing the alternator on the 1998 Chrysler Concorde. The first is disconnecting the battery cables for safety. Second, is depressing the belt tensioner to allow for the release of the drive belt. Finally the alternator can be unbolted from its bracket for replacement. If the drive belt, idler pulley and tensioner are worn it would be an ideal time to replace this components as part of the install.
Check for a good ground between the engine and the body. Also check the light grounds.
it should have the voltage regulator built into the alternator
There are two bolts one is visible on the front and one on the rear. There is a nut on the right side next to the ground on the alternator. once it, the ground, and the molex plug are removed it pops right out. One key thing to remember when putting it back on is to be sure to put the belt on before you put the bolts back in, or you have to mess with the tension pulley.
You can begin by removing the wiring harness from the back of your 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan alternator. Remove the alternator belt. Remove the retaining nuts. Reverse the process to install your new alternator.
