If it's anything like my '87 Pontiac Bonneville, the EGR valve will be located towards the back of the engine, pretty much in the middle of the back, right on top. Look up on the internet what an EGR valve looks like so you can recognize it on your engine; it should be a "linear" EGR valve based on the year. It might have a hard plastic cover over the top, which should come off and you can recognize the EGR valve if you've looked up "linear EGR valve" on the internet. That's as far as I've gotten with mine, I haven't replaced it yet because I can't access the one nut that's holding that bracket thing that holds down the EGR valve. Mine might be a different configuration from yours, I hope they improved the accessibility of the mounting bracket on later models. With all EGR valves, I'm pretty sure, there is also going to be a gasket under the valve where it gets bolted down. If it's old, the old gasket will probably need to be scraped off with something carefully and replaced. There are YouTube videos about replacing EGR valves. Some are by expertvillage. Do you have the car's manual? I have access to a Chilton's car care database through my library, you should ask your library if they have a subscription like that, or they might also have old car manuals to check out. Or you can buy the manuals in a auto parts store, but a worker at my local store said the new ones don't have as much information. Have you already bought a new valve? There are also really simple youtube videos on how to clean old ones and then you might not need a new one. And there are ways to test if they work, so once you clean it you could test it and see if it works like new.

AnswerThe 3800 (RPO: L27) was not equipped with an EGR Valve for the model year 1992 only. The 3800 (RPO:L67) does have an EGR valve. The valve should be located on the driver's side on top of the manifold.A bad EGR valve can keep your car from starting and running properly.
Remove the wiring from the top of the EGR then unbolt it at the bottom of the EGR system. You may need to replace the gasket after replacing the EGR itself
The EGR Valve on a 1999 Pontiac Firebird is located just to the left of the engine oil dipstick. There's nothing in the way so it's pretty easy to get to and replace. Hope this helps! -Erin
