Jeep CherokeeVery easy front center of the engine there is the thermostat housing where the top heater hose and top radiator hose cone together. remove this (2 or 3 bolts) and your thermo will come right out. Scrape both surfaces clean (housing and engine) pay careful attention to not let any trash fall into the engine. Coat your gasket (the new one that came with the thermostat) with permatex, insert the new thermo (it will only fit one way) and bolt the housing back down (pay careful attention to not overtighten the bolts). Project complete in 15 minutes or less.

Helpful hints - make sure the engine has cooled down. Also, you will want the high temp thermo (185 deg), the lower temp will throw your computer off and make the engine idle rough.

The thermostat is located by the side of the cylinder block near the coolant inlet. Remove the coolant inlet housing after disconnecting cables and loosening the holding bolts. You will be able to remove the thermostat to replace it.,
