Look at the belt on the engine, then look at the pulleys. The water pump is behind the pulley without any groves in the pulley.

The water pump pushes the coolant through the engine block and head(s) then into the heater core.

No. There would be a gasket between the head and the block, though.

how to replace water pump in 93 ford econoline 6 cylinder ford van

if im not mistaken..it is behind the timing cover..it runs off the timing belt You are correct. It is the belt tensioner for your timing belt and a pain to release to release the tension and also not the easiest to replace.

heater core is shot. Take it to a shop, you don't want the headache involved in doing it yourself!

I done mine recently.......Wholy Crap.....Pay someone to do it. The water pump is part of the timing belt, What a job! you may even have to lift the engine a bit so it will clear the frame, when taking it out. I got mine all back together with a new pump, but it idles rough now as I got the timing belt off a bit. Really......Pay a professional , its worth it.

On a scale of 1 to 10 its about a 5 for actual dificulty. For pain and tight space to work in they are about a 11 due to sharp edges.

Best way to fix it is to replace it.I had not the correct tool or even knew what the correct tool is and took the car to a shop to replace the Timing belt and Water pump. The shop folk replaced my supplied Drivebelt Tensioner at no additional charge since as they said "We're gonna be in the area anyways".

I can not answer your question but I do know that there was a recall on them.
