Some animosity toward Starbucks exists for their encroachment on local, "mom and pop" joints. However, many would argue that a large percentage of their growth is derived from their redefining the entire coffee industry which -- in turn -- has benefitted thousands of people, including their direct employees who are some of the most satisfied in the world, even beating out Microsoft.
