there are 2 bolts on the back side of the caliper holder that you need to take out and the hold will come off, then pull the caliper off if it doesn't come off hit the rotor with a hammer until it comes off
there should be four bolts on the back of the calipers two of them should hold the pads and the other should hold the caliper remove the pad holder first and then the caliper.
true you do not need to remove the caliper to change the brakes. how evever they are removeable. you should be able to loosen one bolt on the caliper and flip it up to remove the pads.
Hubless design: Raise car, remove wheel, remove caliper, remove brake pad holder, remove rotor. Hub/rotor assembly: Raise car, remove wheel, remove caliper, remove brake pad holder, remove axle nut and cotter pin, remove outer wheel bearing, remove hub/rotor assembly, separate rotor from hub assembly. Re-pack wheel bearings with grease upon reassembly.
I just did my 2005 Ford Escape front brakes and the caliper was 7mm Allen and main holder is 18mm ...RRR Wis.
You need to remove the wheel, the caliper and the caliper mount. After you do that you can remove the caliper.
behind the glovebox (have to remove), upper right in a plastic holder with cap.
1. Remove the brake hose to caliper bolt from the brake caliper. 2. Remove the brake hose from the brake caliper. 3. Remove and discard the 2 copper brake hose gaskets. These gaskets may be stuck to the brake caliper and/or the brake hose end. 4. Cap or plug the opening in the brake caliper and the brake hose to prevent fluid loss and contamination. 5. Remove the 2 brake caliper pin bolts. Remove the park brake cable from the caliper. 6. Remove the brake caliper from the brake caliper bracket.
Remove wheel and ensure vehicle is properly supported Remove caliper and caliper mount bracket Use a small sledge hammer to strike rotor in between lug nut studs. Use safety goggles After a few hits try pulling rotor off, if you can not keep hitting rotor with hammer Repeat until rotor comes off
Front brakes? It goes between the caliper and holder somehow... so if the caliper rattles you won't hear it. Hard to describe. You remove the bolts and antirattle clips, then remove the caliper from the holder. That's metal-on-metal contact between the two, the O-Ring goes around the caliper on these 'ways'.... but it usually ends up destroying itself within a couple months, so most people don't even bother putting the O-Ring on.
Changing brakes is a pretty simple task. Lift the car, remove the tire, brake shoe/caliper and remove the old pad. Put in the new pad, replace the brake shoe/caliper, put the tire back on and lower the car.
Remove the wheel, locate the Caliper. On the inner side there are 2 bolts going through the caliper, remove those (before removing use a flat head screwdriver to compress the caliper some) remove caliper. If you are removing the rotors remove the 2 large bolts on the caliper bracket.
