I changed the heater core this past winter. It was like taking the entire plastic components off from the bottom of the dash.I have a floor shift so I had to remove the console which was time consuming and then rotate it out of the way. The core is in the middle of dash directly on the bottom.I had to take out the radio just to get to a couple of hidden connectors. I would advise after market hose clamps because I just did not have the room to reinstall the factory spring clamps. I did not know the correct procedure and it took me an entire day. The reverse installation was much quicker.
The heater core is locate under the center of the dashboard. To replace you'll have to remove the center consol. There is a retaining pin on the front on the Shift handle that allows the top of the shifter to be removed. The Hoses are located in the center of the firewall under the power steering assemble. Not extremely hard to do if you are patient. My 94 Achieva's original heater core had Plastic connecting tubes. Check to be sure your replacement is all metal. Note Always replace the hoses.
Easy to replace. Hard to get to.

Re: How to replace 95 Achieva heater core... Drain the antifreeze. Keep the drain pan under the heater core hoses. Disconnect the battery. Remove the hose clamps/ 2 hoses fom the heater core from under the hood in the engine compartment. These hoses are hard to reach. You can try to reach the hose clamps from under the raised car. Inside the car: remove the center console if you have one (there is a little clip to pry out from the front of the trans-shift lever), heater ducts and covers and the square black plastic heater core cover. You will need various small sockets. Then just snap the 2 straps loose and replace the core. Make sure that the hoses are not the source of the leaks. Replace the hoses if they are old. One of the hoses is 3/4" on one end and 5/8" on the other end. So, you will need a hose size adapter in the hose if it not a factory hose assembly. I dont remember the size of the other hose.
Very hard.............. You will need to discharge the a/c system, pull back the dash and remove the complete a/c and heating box to remove the heater core.........
its hard you have to take the whole dash out to reach it i had a camaro and it was b****
took me about 2 days, you have to remove the dash completely to get the heater core out. I suggest paying to have it done. I sure will if it ever happens again
I recently installed a new heater core in a 1991 G10 van. I removed the heater fan housing, the heater core hoses, then the compartment came out. After removing the campartment has to be taken apart to replace the core. Alot of work but not all that hard.
