remove caliper,pads and axle nut if it is 4 wd. then remove upper ball joint nut then lower nut. You will then need to beat the spindle out, this will take a pretty good bit of force. once it is out Hammer out ball joints and reverse the procedure.
ADDED: Do not use a hammer. Press out the old ones and press in the new ball joints. You can rent a ball joint press for free from Autozone. Test the balljoints for play before replacing as they may not be the source of the problem.
well i just replaced my ball joints on my 94 F-150 and what i did was tore the axels down and pulled the brake callipers and brake disks, to get to the ball joints. un bolted the nuts and took the peice holding the ball joints in and had them pressed out at a auto shop saved me like 200 dollars. But you need a ball joint press if you wanna do it on your own.
