In my 98 Metro 3 cyl 5 speed I changed the timing belt and continued to have a oil leak in the area around the oil pump. After several remove and reinstall procedures of the front plate that houses the oil pump I realized one of the alighnment pins on either side of the crankshaft ( fits into block )was missing. Installed new alighnment pin and reinstalled front plate and the oil leak has vanished.

NO. It won't even bolt up to the engine, Not even close. You can not use anything newer then 1999 in that 98 model. In LATE 1999 Chevy redesigned all the engines and transmissions.

User Avatar

Maybe, or maybe not. There is a 2.2L pushrod Chevy engine, in 1998 and '99 then there is the 2.2L Ecotec DOHC. Different engines completely

it is the very bottom of the engine.

It is over by the starter, and screewed into the engine block.

User Avatar

No it will not. The 1990 engine is all together different and yes it will bolt in But it will not run. You need a VORTEC engine from the year 1996 through 1999.

User Avatar

No, a 1.9 dohc engine for a 1999 will not fit a 2001 model. Each model of cars receives upgrades that require parts made specifically for that model.
