How do you replace the ignition of a 1992 Lincoln Town Car?

To replace Ignition Switch, first you have to remove the old one. To do this you disconnect battery ground cable. Remove the upper steering column shroud by removing the five self-tapping screws. Remove tilt steering column lock lever, Remove lower steering column shroud, disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector, turn ignition switch lock cylinder to the "run" position, remove the two screws retaining ignition switch, and finally unhook the ignition switch from the actuator. Now to install the new one.Make sure that the ignition switch lock cylinder is in the "run" position. You can test for the "run" position by rotating the ignition switch lock cylinder approximately 90 degrees from the "lock" position. Hook up the ignition switch into the actuator. You might have to move the ignition switch slightly back and forth to align the ignition switch mounting holes with the lock cylinder housing threaded holes. Install retaining screws. Connect electrical connector to ignition switch. Connect battery ground cable. Check ignition switch for proper operation, including start and accessory positions. Also, make certain that the column is in the "locked" position. Then Install upper steering column shroud. Install the lower steering column shroud and tilt steering column lock lever.

How do you replace the ignition switch on a 1991 Toyota Camry?

I am trying to remove the ignition switch of a 1991 camry...Someone tried to steal the car and damaged the keyway...I purchased a new ignition switch but is having a difficult time removing the old cylinder...Is there a "trick" to this task? I 'd appreciate any assistance...Thanks Several tricks--- first remove trim around instruments---then pop off trim ring around ignition switch---unfasten upper and lower steering column covers--remove upper--get about 12 in of 1/8 brass rod---bend a 90 angle about 1/8 long on one end.---unfasten light ring and move out of the way---put key in ignition and turn to ACC position--the release button is about 2in in where switch says LOCK--slide tool in and use the tool to depress the pin (which you cant see) the lock should pop out---key must be in new cyl in ACC position to put new one in---for this they charge $150 If the key doesnt work you have to drill out cylinder and use screwdriver to turn too ACC position.

How do you replace ignition lock on Toyota Camry 1995?

1. Disconnect negative battery terminal…..wait 90 seconds for SRS system. 2. Remove steering column cover - 5 screws from the bottom. 3. Disconnect cable connector under steering column area. 4. Remove 1" x 2" cover under ignition switch…this gives you access to the cotter pin which releases the ignition switch. 5. Remove ignition switch rim cover (black 1.5" diameter circular washer like piece) by gently prying it off. 6. Remove clear plastic casing cover by gently prying up the 2 plastic tabs (really small and black) 7. Insert Key into ignition switch and turn to ACC. 8. Now the tough part … look at the replacement part, estimate about how far the pin is from the edge of the ignition switch and insert an ice pick or something like it to depress the cotter pin….if you press it right, not too hard, it will jiggle the ignition switch free and you can remove it by pulling the key and ignition switch out. I stuck my left hand into the area from the steering wheel opening, then guide the ice pick coming up the 1x2" opening to where you feel a little cotter pin hole. 9. Now insert the new ignition switch and enjoy! The part was $130.00 and the local Toyota dealer was charging 220.00 for labor! They charge $105.00/hour for their expert service so that means it should have been about a 2 hour job, I took 3-4 because I didn't know what I was doing and I had to clean my battery terminals first. I could probably do it in 30-45 minutes now.
