That point is in the Gulf of Guinea off the coast of West Africa, about 300 miles

south of Accra, Ghana. We missed today's local conditions and forecast, but

being on the equator and at sea, you can be sure that the climate there is

quite warm and sticky.

Zero degrees latitude is the equator.

140 degrees east longitude on the equator is a point in the sea north of New Guinea, about

180 miles north-northwest of Jayapura, Indonesia.

Trying to answer the question, we're running into the same problem that the

Coast Guard would have, if they intercepted your distress call and copied the

same information.

You say "zero degrees latitude", so we know you're somewhere on the equator. Now

we're listening eagerly to hear your longitude, and we hear you say "140 degrees long",

and we're still listening, but that's all there is ... nothing about "east" or "west" longitude.

If it's 140 degrees east longitude, then you're in the South Pacific, about 155 miles

northeast of the coast of New Guinea.

If it's 140 degrees west longitude, then you're about 600 miles north of the Marquesas

Islands.

On the equator at 140 East ? Or at 140 West ? The two points are 5,530 miles apart.

Where do we send the rescue ships ?

I would be at sea, about 160 miles north of the nearest point on the coast of the

Indonesian portion of New Guinea. I would not be happy about it.
