Because they are both monotheistic or believe in one God....

In more elaborate terms, Catholics believe the Covenants the God of Israel made with that nation aren't dead: they are now held by the Gentiles and Jews within the Catholic Church which is the "New Zion". God still has a special plan for the Jewish people, but the Covenants of His Salvation and His Presence rest in the Temple of Christ in His Jerusalem: the Catholic Church.

Mandate of Israel*NONE. The Catholic religion is the antithesis of the Faith of Israel, which is the Faith of the Yeshua, the Maschiach of Israel. The catholic faith contravenes the Biblical intentions of the G-D of Israel. There is no evidence that the Mandate was taken away from Israel and given to the gentiles (church). If it were so, then it gives the lie to Yehua's claims that He was sent to redeem Israel. The G-D of Israel would also stand accused of reneging on that promise. The redemption of Israel was not only about their peoplehood, but also about retention of their MANDATE from Heaven.

*The first answer above would have contradicted the following

1. Yeshua's statement that "salvation is of the Jews". 2.Rabbi Shaul's statements that the covenants, the promises, the Offices, the Identity of the Congregation, Birthrights, Ranking, Authority, the Prophesies, the LAW, the Bible belongs to Israel.

Another AnswerJudaism is basically Catholicism's "older brother." Jesus and all the disciples were Jews originally. About that whole Mandate thing...

1. It's okay to say God, you don't have to blank that word word out like it's a cuss word or something.

2. God created everything and he loves it all, not just Israel and the Jews. They are his chosen people, but he does love the Gentiles too.

3. Who is Rabbi Shaul?

Mandate of IsraelOne of the probs in the last 2,000 years was the attempted gentilization of the true christian faith. Names were gentilize, places, ownerships, mandates, authority, offices. Rabbi Shaul is the Hebrew name of Paul of Tarsus. Us christians found it easier to claim Yeshua as ours rather than Israel's by turning the Bible and everything in it into a christian Book.

Imagine the Russians claiming that America belongs to them. They would change the place names into slavic, Washington, Lincoln,et al would become Russian communist heroes. Any protestations by Americans would be dealt with accordingly. American freedom and liberty values would be interpreted according to communist ideology.

Scary. And yet, that's exactly what happened what happened to the faith of Israel when the church tried to usurped Israel's Mandate. Yshua once said to Israel, that He would bring down a veil across the eyes of Israel so that they would recognize Him until the last days. I believe that veil is the Deceptions of the church. I once asked a Jew why they find it hard to accept Yeshua as our Lord, and he replied "that's just it, He's your's, not our's".

It turned out that he is right. Yeshua is in fact their Maschiach, not ours gentiles. The Office of the Maschiach belongs to the Congregation of Israel, not the church's.

Yeshua and all of his disciples were not just Jews originally, they stayed Jewish till the day they died. For them to become otherwise is actually to repudiate their covenants, their promises, and Yeshua Himself. For Yeshua to become the Lord of the church, He would have to throw away the TORAH upon w/c His own Office is embedded into. The Office of the Maschiach of Israel is in the Tanak as the Office of the Presidency of the United States of America is embedded in the US Constitution. The US Con. is owned by the American People. The Torah-Tanak is owned by Israel. Take away Israel, you take away the Torah-Tanak. If the Torah-Tanak is gone, the Office of the Maschiach disappears.

By the way, the US President must be an American CITIZEN to qualify for this Office. Likewise the Office of the Maschiach. He must be from the Tribe of Yehudah, of the Faith of the Congregation of Israel. After all, He is going to assume the Mantle of the Kingship of the Kingdom of Israel, the Office of the High Priest of the Congregation of Israel, the Office of the Chief Prophet (Spokesman) of the People of Israel.

Indeed, He loves humanity. This is the reason why Israel's Mandate was to be redeemed. The Mandate is a proof that humans are capable of becoming citizens of Heaven in HIS own terms, not our's. The Torah is the minimum requrement that G-D had revealed to us to pass the QUALIFICATIONS for the Eternal Life. If Israel fails in that, then G-D has no reason to keep us humans in existence. Israel is suppossed to be the LIGHTBRINGER. The Adversary wants Israel to fail to prove that G-D, Lord and Master of the Universe, is not who He claims to be. Pls.read the hidden History of the church and antisemitism. I assure you, you will be stunned as Yokanan of the Book Revelation was when he was shown who and what the Queen of Heaven really is.

Catholicism is actually the opposite of the Faith of Yeshua. I know, I grow up as an RC.

What?Catholics do not believe in three gods. Catholics believe in 3 people, 1 God. This is a confusing bit of theology, so St. Patrick explained it like this:

Think of a 3-leaf clover. There are 3 leaves all connected to make the clover.

Or

3 people who are so united and have so powerful a love that they are as one.

Whoa!It is extremely misleading and inaccurate to say ... "There is no evidence that the Mandate was taken away from Israel and given to the gentiles (church). If it were so, then it gives the lie to Yehua's claims that He was sent to redeem Israel. The G-D of Israel would also stand accused of reneging on that promise."

Catholics consider that The God of Israel is the same God as that of the Catholic Church and that He has alreadylived up to His promise to redeem the Israelites, as was manifested in the very actions of the 12 Apostles, when Christ ordered them to go forth and teach all nations and so they did ... teaching all that Christ taught them; teachings which became the foundation of the Catholic Church itself. The 12 Apostles, (all previously Jews before their conversions) and their followers became the redeemed Jews as did everyone of the Jewish population who was baptised in the River Jordan, along with Christ himself, (baptised by John the Baptist), and thereby entered into the faith of Christ. In this way Catholics consider that the Jewish people received their redemption.

Those who did not convert and embrace the Sacrament of Baptism adhered to the old Jewish faith and denounced Christ and called for His crucifixion. Their descendants represent the current-day Jewish faith, which does not acknowledge that Christ was the Son of God, only that he was a prophet.

The Old Testament, (The Patriarchal Books) of the two religions are very similar, for they deal with the time before Christ and speak of the same Patriarchs for both religions. The Gentiles (founders of Catholicism) embraced Christ as their God, believing that he fulfilled the word of the Patriarchs of Israel, having been born through the line of the Patriarchs of Israel which both the Jewish and Catholic faiths acknowledge as their true Patriarchs. However the Books of the New Testament, which the Jewish faith does not accept, relate to the time following the birth of Christ, when the Jewish followers were split in their beliefs by the teachings of Christ.

Yes, they are one and the same.

Answer:

The Roman Catholics are a sect of the Christian religion - all Roman Catholics are Christians but not all Christians are Roman Catholics.

Roman Catholic AnswerChristianity is the religion of, the body of faith and morals taught by, the Catholic Church of Christ. The word may be properly extended to include the religious systems of the dissident Eastern churches and of some Protestant bodies (see Christian below). The current popular use of the word [Christianity] in an ethical, subjective sense, is to be deplored: it is stripping it of all objective or historical connotations. Please note that protestants, whose ecclesial unions broke away from the Christian Church in the sixteenth century, have since appropriated the term "Christian" to themselves, although classically, their "churchs" are known as sects. In other words, as Mr. Attwater explains in his dictionary, the term "Christian" has become devoid of any real meaning as evidenced by the answer above and below.

Christian. A name first given to the followers of our Lord at Antioch (Acts xi, 26). Since the rise of Protestantism the name has been used in so many different senses as to have become almost meaningless: it may indicate a Catholic or a Unitarian, or even be applied to an infidel who displays some virtue which is associated with Christ. It may reasonably be applied to the members of all the ancient churches, whether in communion with the Holy See or not, and to those Protestants who profess, explicitly or implicitly, the Nicene creed in its traditional interpretation. the Church puts no definite official meaning on the word, as she does on Catholic.

Non-Catholic Answer

They are not one in the same. There are many denominations of Christians, Catholics are only one and many non-Catholics would be offended with the inference.

They are profoundly different. Jews worship only G-d, and our 'bible' is the Tanakh, which comprises the Torah, Prophets, and Writings. We do not believe in 'original sin', or 'hell'. Catholics worship also Jesus and Mary, and do usually believe in 'original sin'. Their bible is the New Testament. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Roman Catholics acknowledge Jesus Christ as the Messiah where as the Jews are still waiting for the Messiah to come. The Catholic Church is the only church that can claim to have been founded by Christ personally. Every other church traces its lineage back to a mere human person such as Martin Luther or John Wesley. The Catholic Church can trace its lineage back to Jesus Christ who appointed St. Peter as the first pope. This line of popes has continued unbroken for almost 2,000 years. God rules, instructs and sanctifies His people through His Church. Under her teaching office, the Catholic Church preserves the Word of God. She is the custodian, keeper, dispenser and interpreter of teachings of Christ. And she accomplishes this under the protection of the Holy Spirit exserts from the writtings of Fritz Tuttle

There are several ways Catholics and Jews are similar.

For example,

  • both extol the virtue of religion (see related link below),
  • both have a similar moral structure that has its foundations in the Ten Commandments,
  • both share the majority of the Old Testament as the inspired word of God (n.b. Jewish scholars accept the deuterocanonical texts as edifying and useful for reading, but not as inspired. i.e. the Catholic Old Testament is bigger by including the deuterocanonical texts), and
  • perhaps most importantly, both believe in one God.

They share the same G-d, the Torah is the first 5 books of the Christian Bible (written by Moses), and the Jewish Bible can be found in the rest of the Christian Bible, the Old Testament. They differ in the Jews waiting for the Messiah and Christians have found him in Jesus.

Only a person who is devoid of knowledge and truly misguided would claim that the Jews and Christians follow the Religion of Abraham (peace be upon him) or that they are upon the “Abrahamic Faith” or that there are three Religions who constitute the Religion of Abraham (peace be upon him). Indeed, it is authentically reported that the Jewish and Christian scholars in the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) would state: “Abraham was neither a Jew or a Christian, rather he would worship none but Allah alone.”

Allah, the Most High, stated in Sūrah Al-Baqarah (2:135-136)

  1. They (the People of the Book) say, “Be you Jews or Christians, then you will be guided.” Say to them, “Rather, [we follow] truly the monotheistic religion of Abraham, and he was not of the polytheists.”

  1. Say, O Muslims, “We believe in Allāh and what has been revealed to us, and what has been revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob and his offspring amongst the Prophets sent to the Children of Israel, what was given to Moses, Jesus and the rest of the Prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, we believe in them all, and unto Allāh we have submitted as Muslims.”

And He (the Most High) stated in Sūrah Āli-‘Imrān (3:67):

مَا كَانَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ يَهُودِيًّا وَلَا نَصْرَانِيًّا وَلَٰكِن كَانَ حَنِيفًا مُّسْلِمًا وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ – 3:67

  1. “Abraham was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was Hanīf (worshipper of Allah alone), a Muslim and he was not of the polytheists.”

Ibn Kathīr about this verse (3:67) said: “Meaning he (Abraham) was far removed from polytheistic practices and idolatry and determined upon true faith (ēmān).”

At-Tabari said about the same verse: “Here Allah rejected and falsified the claim of those from the Jews and Christians who argue concerning Abraham and his Religion – those who assert that Abraham was upon their Religion – so Allah disassociated them from him (i.e. Abraham), and that they are in opposition to his Religion. [This verse] is a decree from Allah (the Mighty and Majestic) for the people of Islam and for the Ummah of Muhammad that they are the people upon the Religion of Abraham, and upon his Methodology and Law to the exclusion of all the people of other faiths and religions.”

So how misguided is the ignoramus who claims that the Jews and Christians are upon the faith of Abraham, saying: “So the monotheism, the values, the principles, of all Abrahamic Faiths, we do not reject them, we do not disrespect them… But monotheism, we agree with that with the Jews and Christians…” [1] This ignorant and innovated statement contradicts the verses of the Qur’an, it opposes the Tafsīr (scholarly explanations) of the Quranic verses as well as the Prophetic narrations that follow below in this article.

Historically, the Christian church began as a sect of Judaism. There are compelling arguments to support the hypothesis that Jesus himself would have been seen by contemporary Jews as a Pharasee. (Who but a Pharasee would have spent so much time arguing with Pharasees!)

The Christian Bible includes the entire Jewish Bible as the Old Testament, and what Christians call the New Testament is peppered with quotations of and references to the Jewish Bible, to the extent that the New Testament verges as incomprehensible without knowledge of significant parts of the Old.
