Depends on how much metal... if its a little bit like tiny specks, that's what the normal purpose of oil is for...

# Lubricate moving parts in engine # Remove debris from normal wear and tear (side note: if your car's relatively new, you need to break in you engine slowly, and do the 1st 2 oil changes sooner to remove this metal debris during the initial break in period) If however you see these shavings after a knocking or rattling noise, its internal engine wear that needs to be looked at, ranging from rod/main bearing issues or worse... (cylinder head/camshaft damage) just make sure you keep you car lubricated no matter what or you can have major engine damage.

Without knowing more about the background of your car, the initial issues surrounding this oil change, I cannot tell you more...

What can metal shavings mean in an oil pan in a 2005 Ford F-150?

A lot depends on the TYPE of metal shavings you have in the pan. Larger "pieces" of shiny metal can often be broken rings and will be accommodated by oil burning, rough running, etc. Much smaller fragments can be rod bearings. Much depends on how the engine is running. More info on that would be helpful
