You have probably thought of this already but is the ecm relay functioning ?

It does not have one. Crankshaft position sensors are used in distributorless ignition systems to tell the ignition control module where the crankshaft is in its rotation. The 1982 thru 1986 2.8L engines had distributors so they had no need of a crankshaft position sensor.
Repairing a crankshaft position sensor would be difficult if not impossible depending on what is wrong with it. They are relatively inexpensive so replacing it is the best option.
1983 doesnt have a crankshaft position sensor. you have an ignition module located on the side of the distributor.
This sensor provides a signal to an engine management computer or an ignition control module or igniter indicating the position of the crankshaft.
A CKP is the crankshaft position sensor. The engine computer uses that sensor to know the position of the crankshaft for fuel and ignition timing purposes. With out the ckp the engine will not run.
The location of the crankshaft position sensor depends on which engine the car has. If it is the 2.5L 4 cylinder engine the crankshaft position sensor is behind the ignition module. If it is the 2.8L V6 engine the crankshaft position sensor is on the side of the engine nearest the firewall and just above the pan rail in about the center of the block.
Its on the firewall side of engine between transmission and engine just below the ignition coil packs one of the wire connectors from ignition module go to crankshaft position sensor
The 1998 Saturn SL2 will show a code 340 and 341 for a camshaft position sensor because this part is also considered the crankshaft position sensor on the Saturn. The location of the crankshaft position sensor is behind the alternator on a 1998 Saturn SL2. Both crankshaft and camshaft are the same thing This vehicle is not equipped with a camshaft position sensor. Saturn is the only manufacture that uses a auto pulse generated inside the ignition control module in conjunction with the pulse received from the crankshaft position sensor to determine ignition and injection timing. If you have a code for camshaft position sensor the issue is with the pulse generator in the ignition control module.
You can replace the ignition control module and the crankshaft position sensor as required.
The crankshaft position sensor on a 97 GM Sonoma 2.2 engine is located on the lower right side of the engine. It is near the ignition control module.
On the 2.8 V6 engine the crankshaft position sensor is near the bottom center of the block on the side nearest the firewall. On the 2.5L 4 cylinder engine the crankshaft position sensor is behind the ignition module below the intake manifold.
