You have to pull the dash and all the lower fascia, then remove the box that houses the heater core. Take the clamps off the heater hoses from the engine compartment side of the firewall and disconnect the heater hoses. Disconnect the bracket that holds the heater core in place from the inside of the passenger compartment (if present.) Carefully remove the heater core and discard it. Install a new heater core reversing the above steps.

How do you bypass the heater core on a 1988 Ford Taurus?

In most vehicles you can see two hoses that disappear into the firewall. These carry the hot water to and from the heater core. find where they come out and return to the cooling system and connect the outgoing and incoming with one single hose. You will need to have less water in the system once you do this. If you are doing this in the winter, obviously your heater will not work anymore. Also, if you have any overheating problems, you won't be able to draw heat off the engine by running the heater once you do this. You can bypass it, by unhooking the heater hoses under the hood, and installing a coupler between the two hoses, thus looping the coolant flow back to the engine, without it ever entering the heater core.Disconnect both heater hoses going through the firewall to the heater core. Connect these two hoses together.

How do you clean the heater core on 1988 S-10?

This is what I do to flush a heater core without removing it from vehicle, drain off aprox 2 qts of coolant from radiator. Remove both heater hose connections from engine. Fabricate a fitting to connect a garden hose to one of the heater hoses. Direct the remaining heater hose into a container. Gently turn on garden hose and flush until fluid runs clear. Reverse connections and repeat. Reconnect heater hoses to engine and refill coolant reservoir.

How do you replace the heater core in a 1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass?

Drain the radiator Remove the lower panels under the dash. Go under the hood and remove the hose clamps off the heater core. This will take the most time of the whole project....very little room to work. Under the dash unbolt the heater core (4 1/4"bolts) Pull the core back Have a buddy twist the heater hoses and pull, while you hold the heater core pipes. Have a drain pan handy because antifreeze will rush out into your floormats from the heater core. Once hoses are off pull the old core out. to reinstall is reverse order. Use caution installing heater hoses, because the heater core damages easily....use hand lotion on the inside of the hoses to let them slip on easily.
