Changing gearbox so had to remove bottom support bolt that is fixed into gearbox. 8mm hexagon key reached in leaving the short end to turn, put a small tube on it to give more leverage. You could buy a 1/2" drive 8mm hex bit for socket set ratchet, 6.49 from Halfords, be careful as the one I bought snapped first go, very brittle metal, have complained. knocked out broken bit and fitted a sawn off Allen key. The hex bolt isn't too tight but has a long thread so seems to take forever. Keep the manifold joint up as if it drops the weight of the exhaust causes bracket to press the bolt down making it tight to turn. Good luck Pete

1996 Nissan Pathfinder change exhaust manifold?

What engine???????? You should refer to repair manual if not familiar with auto repair and understand the terminology before attempting Remove nuts holding exhaust manifold to cylinder head & remove nuts/bolts holding exhaust manifold to exhaust pipes Use new exhaust manifold gaskets and install the new manifold securing the manifold to cylinder head (may need to but new nuts and or bolts) by "snugly" tightening manifold to cylinder head if not refering to repair manual

Is it difficult to remove exhaust manifold from 1998 jeep wrangler 4.0 engine?

Its a bit of a job because it is held on by the same bolts as the intake manifold, and the easiest way is to remove them both, otherwise the rusted exhaust bolts holding the tubing to the manifold is the worst.

How do you replace the exhaust manifold gasket?

Disconnect the frontand rear o2 sensor electrical connectors. Separate the catalytic converter from the flex-pipe. Remove the fasteners between the catalytic converter and the exhaust manifold. Disconnect the EGR tube from the catalytic converter. Remove band from the front of the catalytic that holds it to the bracket on the front of the engine block. Remove fasteners holding exhaust manifold to head.

How do you remove the intake manifold on a 1988 vw jetta?

Just an update, we didn't want to take the time in removing the fuel system so we held it to the side and unscrewed the 8 bolts holding the intake in, after that it was pretty simple to detach the intake manifold and "finagle" it out. However, i did run into a problem with the chosen header going in to replace the old exhaust manifold and had to grind the outsides of the intake manifold around the bolt holes in order to make the exhaust manifold fit correctly.

A egr valve for your 1999 ford escort are they hard to take off?

The EGR valve is easy to remove. Just take out the two bolts holding it in. The problem is the exhaust tube leading into it. Follow the tube to the exhaust manifold. There you will see two nuts holding it on. Remove those two nuts and then all you have to do is maneuver the assy from the engine compartment...

How do you install Headers on a 87 vw golf mk2?

2 ways. Easiest way: Remove the inlet manifold...should be alot of m6 torx bolta holding it. Then you unscrew all the 10mm brass nuts you find on the orginale header. Then you remove the two springs holding header to exhaust system. Then take the old one out... Install the new one ..remember to put new gaskets between headers and inlet manifold. You might have to weld or change the exhaust to make it fit the new headers. Would recommend using Supersprint headers with exhaust wrapping on it. Good luck

How do you replace the exhaust manifold gasket on a 1995 Nissan Pathfiner?

Gain access to the manifold area, Unbolt the 6 bolts holding it on. Seperate the manifold from the engine and scrape off the old gasket, sand it down with emery cloth, Make sure to keep debris from going inside the chamber. Insert the new gasket and get the manifold close then wiggle it around till you can get a few bolts in then thread the rest in. torque them down to spec and your done.

Where is the EGR valve in a Ford Escort?

Locate the intake plenum on the back side of the engine. The EGR valve is on the right side of the intake plenum or manifold. It has 2 bolts holding it on. It has a long tube going down to the exhaust pipe.

Where is the O2 Sensor located on a 1998 Honda Civic Sedan?

There are two sensors, one before, and one after the catalytic converter. There are wires coming out, so they are hard to miss. The catalytic converter is connected to the exhaust manifold, which is connected directly to the engine. You can see it looking down at the open hood, towards the front of the car, attached to the engine. The top sensor sticks stright out of the exhaust manifold, the second sensor is down a little lower and to the left if you are facing the car from the front. Note: The exhaust manifold has a metal heat shield over it. You can remove the two bolts (12mm) holding the heat shield to inspect the exhaust manifold. It is VERY COMMON for some models to develop hairline cracks in the exhaust manifold right around the oxygen sensor (you might have to brush away rust to see the cracks). This could result in the check engine light going on indicating bad cat (even though there may not be anything wrong with your cat OR your sensors!). If you see cracks, either repair them or replace the manifold (unfortunately you typically cannot buy just the manifold, you have to buy a new cat with manifold - but you can sometimes find used manifolds or aftermarket cat+manifold for cheap). Some have used heat resistant expoxy to repair the cracks (welding is better though). If you use epoxy, look for a brand specifically made for exhaust systems. "JB Weld" epoxy from your hardware store may work for a couple weeks but is not a good solution.

Where is and how do you replace the EGR valve on a 1993 Ford Taurus GL V6 3.0?

The EGR valve is the round drum-shaped object mounted on the rear of the intake manifold, to the left of the throttle linkage. It has a vacuum hose coming in on top, and a metal pipe below which leads to the exhaust manifold. To remove the valve, unplug the vacuum hose. Loosen the nut connecting the exhaust pipe to the underside. Remove the two bolts holding the valve to the manifold and the valve should come off. I am about to do the same procedure on my Taurus. I have read that the opening on the inlet manifold can become choked with carbon, so be sure to clean this before replacing the valve.

Where is the thermostat located on a 1997 Chevy Cavalier 2.4L?

Follow the hose coming out of the bottom of the radiator, it goes under the oil pan up under the exhaust manifold. I had that part out to get my oil pan off and it looks like thermostat up there. You need to take of the shield over the manifold to get at the bolts holding it on. I'm not sure if it is the thermostat but sure looks like one.

Where is the PCV valve located on a 1998 Mercury Mystique?

The PCV on the 2.0L Zetec is under the exhaust manifold. If you look at the thermostat housing, there is a steel hose that runs underneath it. Follow that down under the exhaust manifold. It can be changed if you know how to do it with out taking off alot of stuff.Depending on flexibility and hand size, the average person can reach the PCV from underneath the car. Reach under the exhaust manifold, between the catalytic converter and block - PCV is in plain view from here. Otherwise, you'll have to remove the heat shield above the manifold (horizontal across front of engine below valve cover) and catalytic converter from the block as outlined in the Haynes repair manual. just remove thermostate housing and there is a bolt holding the meatal tube going to the pcv. need 10 mm and a 3/16 Allen wrench
