How do you replace a cv joint in a Mazda 3?

During an alignment job my shop melted my cv boot while heating the tie rod end for adustment. Because something is pressed on, they ordered the entire shaft. Mazda dealers would not sell them a boot and because their policy is to not farm out any work, ordering the shaft cost them more money than sending the car to Mazda to change the boot. This was the passenger side shaft. Hope this helps.

How do you replace cv joint on a Mazda mx-3?

To replace your CV joint you will have to slacken your hub nut before jacking and removing the wheel. Remove hub nut, remove both bolts on the bottom of the shocky, remove bottom ball joint bolt. You should have enough play to remove your shaft from the hub. Remove CV boot, CV joint should just pull off shaft. I made the mistake of buying and fitting a full drive shaft unnecessarily.

How do you remove driver side front cv joint on 96 geo prizm?

1) Remove the cotterpin for the CV shaft axle nut and loosen nut 2)Jack the front of the vehicle 3) Place a jack stand under to secure the raised vehicle 4)Remove the tire 4) Remove the tie rod cotterpin & nut. Use a gear puller to loosen the tie rod joint (or use a tie rod joint splitter if you plan on replacing the tie rod ball joint). 5) Remove the axle nut 6) Remove the 2 nuts and 1 bolt for the lower ball joint. 7) Use your puller to free the axle shaft from the wheel hub. and separate the hub from the CV shaft 8) Place a pry bar between the CV shaft and transaxle and pry the CV shaft loose. 9) Remove the shaft TO INSTALL: IMPORTANT-DO NOT BEND THE CV SHAFT JOINTS. DO NOT PULL ON THE SHAFT JOINTS. DO NOT USE A HAMMER TO INSTALL 1) Lube the CV shaft (tranaxle side) spline. Insert the shaft with the split ring retainer opening at 6 o'clock. Firmly press the shaft into the transaxle 2) Lube the wheel hub shaft spline and place wheel hub over the shaft. 3) Reinstall everything removed in removal steps. Torque each to Mfg. specs. 4) Have a beer to celebrate completion! Lube the

Is it not good to drive long distance with a busted cv joint on your passenger side of car?

Actually it is impossible to drive with a "busted" CV joint. The half shaft is comprised of a shaft and two CV joints at each end. There are 3 different kind of cv joints, but that's besides the point. The half shaft transfers power from the tranaxle to the wheels. If one goes, the car don't. You probably mean cv boot. The boot is what protects the cv joint from dirt and moisture etc. I have seen a cv joint fail anywhere from a month to a year and a half after seeing a torn boot. It is a gamble to drive like this. The centrifical force of the axle spinning flings the grease out of the joint. The joint goes dry, metal on metal action happens and it self destructs.

Three differences between a drive shaft and a prop shaft?

1) Drive-shafts are used on FWD but Prop-Shafts are used on RWD or 4WD. 2)A Drive-Shaft has final drive via a CV joint but a Prop-Shaft has final drive via a Differential. 3)A Drive-Shaft is smaller, lighter and saves space by not having a transmition tunnel.

How do you change the CV joints on a 1993 Mazda MX-3?

See the "online shop manual" at "www.mx-3.com" under "Technical". It's fairly standard with the usual Mazda quirks regarding tools, if you've done these before you'll probably manage it.

Where is the crank shaft sensor on a 92 Mazda mx-3?

To the right of the crank shaft pulley. You should see a single black wire going up from the pulley. All you need is a 10MM socket to remove it.

How do you replace front CV shaft on a 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Remove the tire (5 lug nuts). Remove the brake caliper (2 bolts from the rear of the assembly). Remove the brake rotor. Then you want to remove the shaft nut and Hub axle bearing (3 bolts from the rear of the assembly). The CV just should pull out of the front shaft housing. Best thing is to do is go buy the break down manual for you Grand. find the book for your and model and eng. type additional info: I had a torn CV rubber boot on my 95 GC that had let dirt into the CV joint to the extent that it was making noise and threatening to go out. This is the joint that connects the front drive shaft leading from the transfer case to the front differential and is located right behind the front differential. My local mechanic replaced the CV joint with a U-joint and told me that Jeep has issued a bulletin to do so as the front CV joint was a weak point that caused lots of problems. The good news is that a U-joint is a stronger link and the bearings are permanently sealed so, no zerks to grease and no rubber boots to wear out or rip. The previous answer addressed an issue if your problem was an axle CV joint...mine addressed the issue if your problem is the front drive shaft....you did not specify in your question. Actually your question asked how to replace the shaft which makes little sense as the shaft itself is just a hunk of steel and would never go out unless you also tore up the U-joints, the CV joints and perhaps the transfer case first.

How do you change a front wheel bearing hub assembly on a 2001 Pontiac Bonneville?

You'll need a 36mm socket to remove the bearing hub hub (from the end of the cv shaft). Loosen CV shaft 36mm torque nut prior to lifting vehicle. Loosen (don't remove) wheel lug nuts from wheel. Jack up front end of vehicle until both front wheels are off the concrete. Place jack stands underneath the vehicle. Remove the lugs and wheel from the hub. Remove the brake caliper and rotors (hang caliper with wire from strut/spring assembly to keep the brake line/hose from stretching). Remove the rotor from the hub. Now, with a separate jack, raise the control arm until the point that the cv shaft is level (not angled into the bearing hub). Remove the ABS sensor electrical plug. With 1/2" socket, remove the (3) bolts from the back side of the steering knuckle, which holds the bearing hub assembly in place. It will be tricky accessing these (3) bolts with a socket, extension, and ratchet, due to the very tight quarters, but you can do this, as I have. After removing these (3) bolts, finish removing the cv shaft hub nut, and the bearing hub assembly will remove from the cv shaft. Assembly is the reverse of the above procedure. Be sure to torque the (3) bearing hub bolts to the proper torque, as well as the bearing hub nut to cv shaft. Total time for a good mechanic: about 1 1/2 hours. A novice or beginner: about 2 1/2 hours.

What is the shaft called that gos to each front wheel on 1987 dodge 4 wheel drive?

It is called a " Constant Velocity Drive Axle", CV axle or CV shaft assembly it is made up of 2 joints and the center drive shaft. If you need to replace them, the parts are cheap, about $120 per assembly but the labor is going to be quite a bit more. If you are going to try and do it yourself be prepared to pull your hair out. dodge trucks have a retaining ring that holds the CV joint to the spline shaft coming out of the differential. It is impossible to remove. So the Cv joint must be pulled off. I would rent a large (10-12 ton) 2 or 3 claw puller (you will never get it off without one). And Good Luck!!
