There is no way to say for sure but I think there would have been. Certainly without Hitler Germany's history and political development would have been very different. I doubt though that she could have sustained a republic. Some kind of Dictatorship would have arisen. If Germany had not rearmed and sought vengeance for her defeat in World War I, I think it would have been almost inevitable that the Soviet Union, under Joseph Stalin, would have attacked the west sometime in the 1940's or 1950's. That would then have become the Second World War. Michael Montagne

No, conclusively. The Second World War was entirely a direct consequence of Hitler taking power in Germany, and using Germany's resources to pursue his insane dreams of exterminating "lesser" races to give Germany more living space in the east. It seems highly unlikely that any other German leader could or would produce the same long series of events that led a world war.

There would inevitably be other wars, but there is no sensible reason to appropriate the name "Second World War" to describe some other hypothetical conflict.

Probably not. It was Hitler who made obsessive Jew-baiting absolutely central to his policies and who encouraged the terror lobby run by Himmler.

But Hitler wasn't the only reason for the hatred of Jews, as they have been hated for a long time in history.

First off, millions of people (including soldiers and civilians) would not have died. Unfortunately, there would still be a world-wide depression (known as the Great Depression in American). The rapid growth of industry (steel, rubber), trade (of arms, war loans), and military machines got the US on track again. In the short run, we would have still been in the same depression for some years. The depression in Germany was so bad, the people turned to Hitler, who got the economy turned around by secretly building up his military. He was named TIME'S man of the year for this great achievement. So, had he not been preparing for war, the Germans would have been in a depression also, perhaps for longer. In the ling run, there would have to be a war for everyone to get out of this slump. Japan needed resources, so it kicked off the war in Asia. Italy shared the same views as Germany. I think war was unavoidable. If it somehow was avoided, everyone would have somehow been isolationistic yet imperialistic.

Things that might have happened: USSR,gets more and more powerful, creating unease among democracies everywhere. Germany, the US, and many other nations would be stuck in depressions and might even have radical revolutions (thank god for FDR). Japan and Italy could not have gained the Natural Resources that it needs to compete in world markets and ect. MANY of the advancements made during and in the war would be gone, setting back the US and the world as a whole.

That's all I can think of right now, hope this helped!

Well, I think that the world would be just full of terror. Hitler wanted to create "the perfect race", which means 100% German, blonde hair, blue eyes (what if it's green? Kidding!). He wouldn't have stopped with Jews. He would have gone on to Asians, Mexicans, and so on, so forth, until the world was left with the "perfect race" he fantasized. One thing that is surprising is that Hitler didn't have blone hair... Well, I think that the world would be just full of terror. Yes, in fact, Hitler said that if Great Britain and France stepped in and prevented him from expanding into the Rhineland/Belgium, he would have stopped. Then again, he said this after the Battle of London, when he was at the height of his power and getting cocky.

This is an opinion type question.

My opinion:

Without Hitler, I don't believe that the Nazi Party would have grown powerful enough to gain control of Germany. I think Hitler was the key ingredient to the downfall of 'democracy' in Germany in 1932, and the resulting World War in Europe. This is not to say that Mussolini or Stalin would not have started a war or conflict in Europe 1930's-1940's.

Goebbels was important in getting Hitler to power. He thought up campaigns such as the hitler over Germany campaign where hitler flew by aeroplane over Germany giving rallies. This was revolutionary for the time. Furthermore, once hitler was in power, goebbels' Propaganda was essential in maintaining control of the people of nazi Germany.
