You need to remove the two bolts that hold the caliper to the spindle assy and slide the caliper assy off the rotor and then remove the pads. To replace them with new you need to push the piston back into the caliper or they won't fit back over the rotor. The 2 bolts that hold the caliper on are Torx heads (on 1999+ new body style trucks and 2000+ SUVs). My truck uses a T-56, but the Auto store told me T-60 are also common for the GM full size truck. Also, if your caliper has 2 pistons, you will need to push both in at the same time. You can use the old brake pad set up against both pistions and a large pliers to push them in at the same time. Or you can use the old brake pad and a tool designed to push in the pistions. Your local Auto store should have them.
It takes a T55 Torx bit on the front calipers.
the caliper bolts require a 3/8" Allen wrench. You can buy these as a socket at just about any parts store.
Remove the screws that hold the headliner in place. With the headliner removed the overhead console retaining bolts will be visible. Remove the retaining bolts. Remove the wiring harness from the console.
