The first members of NATO were the U.S, Britain, Canada, Belgium, Netherlands, Italy, Luxenbourg, Portugal, Denmark, Norway and Iceland in April 1949 but has since expanded.

Currently NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) consists of 28 countries. It was established through the North Atlantic Treaty in 1949.
