I saw this in the question pool and realized it had been there a while. I thought over it and I have decided to give you some of the events I think are major events. I am dividing my answer out by the location of the war and chronology. There is not much room here to give you a ton of details but you can go to the web site below if you need to know more.

  • Adolf Hitler rises to full power when Prime Minister Hindenburg dies.
  • The Nazi party and Hitler slowly and methodically "Nazify" the German populous and call up men to serve in the military. The military might is built up.
  • The rest of the world watches as the Germans violate the Versailles Treaty and they do nothing about it.
  • Hitler and France and England sign a Munich Pact that allows Hitler to take the Sudetenland in Czechoslovakia (he had already sent troops there).
  • Hitler invaded Poland. The French and British declared war on Germany. The Phony War occurred.
  • Hitler invaded Norway and Finland. Then he proceeded to invade all the other European nations (except the UK and neutral nations).
  • The Battle of Britain and Battle of Atlantic were offensives carried out by the Nazi Germans. Britain evacuated their children to the countryside during the Blitz bombing.
  • Africa was invaded by the Germans and Italians in the hope to get Ethiopia's oil, etc.
  • The US was attacked by the Japanese and they joined the Allied Forces to defeat the Nazis and the Japanese.
  • The Allied Forces defeat Germany in Africa and Italy.
  • Normandy Invasion conducted by the Allied Forces was successful. They advanced through France and other nations.
  • Special battles of note: Battle of the Bulge, Operation Barbarossa, Operation Market Garden, The crossing of the Rhine, Russians advanced through the eastern nations and they met up with the western allies in Berlin.
  • Adolf Hitler marries and he and his wife committed suicide as the Russians approached his bunker.
  • Admiral Doenitz surrendered to the Allied Forces twice. First to the Western Allies and the next day to the Eastern Ally, the Soviet Union.
  • Japan invades China and murders hundreds of Chinese. (in the 1930s). The world is furious. The US places an oil embargo upon Japan until they leave China and stop their invasion tactics and oil theft.
  • 1941: Japan sends delegates to negotiate for an end to the embargo. Big sham. They attacked the US without declaring war first.
  • Isolationism is quelled in the US. They join the war in the Eastern Theater of Operations and plan on efforts to defeat Japan.
  • The Philippines is invaded by Japan. Thousands of Filipino and American troops are marched on the Bataan Peninsula in dire heat without food and water. Hundreds died along the way and in the POW prison for the next three years.
  • Colonel Doolittle led a raid to bomb Japan and they landed in China. Some of the bomber crews did not make it. Some were caught by the Japanese and Russians.
  • An island hopping campaign commenced. The Allied Forces went from Midway, the Mariana Islands and all the way to Okinawa which is close to Japan. Each island campaign was worse than the one before.
  • President Roosevelt died and Harry Truman took over. He chose to use the atom bombs to motivate the very stubborn Japanese Military Leaders to surrender. The Soviets were in China ready to invade when the bombs had been dropped.
  • Emperor Hirohito ended the war by surrendering.
