he tansmission is gonne and needs to be replaced
There can be several things that will an automatic transmission not to work properly. The most common cause is a lack of transmission fluid. Broken shifting linkage can also cause the problem.
Sounds like the transmission
If you have an automatic transmission then either the linkage is fouled up or you got a internal problem. That's 100 vrs about 3000 dollars.
Check the transmission fluid level.
If the automatic transmission on a 2002 Kia Rio won't go into park and there is no reverse, there is a problem inside the transmission with the gear bands. Each gear has a separate band and sometimes they wear out. New bands need to be put in or a new transmission needs to be installed.
Your transmission needs to be rebuilt ... although - once - I "fixed" that problem by draining & refilling my trany.
Reverse is usually the first to go, followed by first gear. Time for a transmission rebuild.
The early 2003 Accord 5 speed automatic had a recall on the transmission to fix a lubrication problem, but your 2005 is a very reliable transmission. Have the fluid changed every 50,000 miles and it should give you good service.
If you have an automatic transmission, it probably has a forward clutch/band problem.
Could be a pump problem or broken planetary. Regardless, the transmission will need to be disassembled.
if an automatic transmission is grinding in reverse it is probably an internal failure. The car will probably need a good mechanic who specializes in transmissions to look at it to be sure. I have seen some cars with a simple linkage problem do this...but its unlikely.
Check Your Tranny Fluid.
