Although, in the past, traditionally, there have been some philosophers, British General Montgomery (although not necessarily a philosopher), of North Africa fame in WWII, was once quoted as saying, "...never get involved in a war in Asia."
There is something to that statement. Wars in Southwest Asia (termed the Middle East by most Westerners), and Europe, always seemed to be quick and short wars. Whilst wars in Southeast Asia, Korea, Manchuria, Pacific, etc. always seemed to be long and extremely bloody wars.
