What did the Nation of Islam do?

The main belief of The Nation of Islam and its followers is that there is no other God but Allah. The Nation of Islam (NOI) preaches adherence to the Five Pillars of the Islamic Faith. The NOI also teaches morality and personal decorum, emphasizing modesty, mutual respect, and discipline in dress and comportment. NOI adherents stress a healthy diet and physical fitness, do not consume pork, shellfish, oralcohol, and do not use drugs or tobacco.The official beliefs of the Nation of Islam have been outlined in books, documents, and articles published by the organization, as well as speeches by Elijah Muhammad, Malcolm X, Farrakhan, and other ministers. Many of Elijah Muhammad's teachings may be found in Message to the Blackman in America and The True History of Jesus as Taught by the Honorable Elijah Muhammad.

Though The Nation of Islam claimed they believed in the true teachings and guidelines of Islam, in actual fact everything they did went against the teachings laid down by the Quran (Muslim's holy book) and the teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad. (peace be upon him)

Thus The Nation of Islam used the name of Islam to justify his immoral cause.

After having been to Mecca, Malcolm X showed signs of softening his stand on violence and even met with Martin Luther King Jr. to exchange remarks. What direction he might have ultimately taken is lost to a history that can never be written

Malcolm X originally converted to Islam by this group but when he realised their views were too radical he left the group and was assassinated later on by rival black Muslims.
