The Viet Cong wanted to help Communist Vietnam make Democratic Vietnam communist. They helped by tricking soldiers into thinking that they were South Vietnamese peasants, and they were harmless. They also put bombs on babies or set bombs beneath babies to bring US soldiers to their deaths.

When the French withdrew from Vietnam in 1954, the US installed the Diem regime, brutal and without popular support, but friendly to US corporate intrests. The resistance movement, the NLF, later became known as the Viet cong. What did the US want?Rubber, oil, copper, of course. They wanted Vietnam to serve as a neo-liberal model for the region. What they didn't want was a true democracy.Sound familiar? Robert Keohane , the so called father of neoliberalism, published his book "after hegomony" in 1984, but this behaviour (powerful states bullying weaker ones)has been around longer than him. Call it what you want,Keohane, its wrong.Stop justifying it.

The Viet Cong were recruited and trained by North Vietnamese cadre to help disrupt the democratic government of South Vietnam. They also were told that the United States forces were aggressors, trying to take over Vietnam, and that they had to be stopped so their homeland could be united into one country again.
