You mean "daleel", with a normal 'D' sound.

A daleel is a proof. When an Islamic scholar gives his or her opinion on a matter (such as smoking cigarettes, mortgages, wills, or really anything else) they will back up their opinions with quotes from the Qur'an, the sayings of Muhammad (peace be upon him) or something that he or his companions (disciples) did. Those quotes are considered 'proofs' (supporting arguments) for what the scholar is saying. In fact, no opinion of anyone should be given or accepted by anyone without a daleel or, the plural: "Adil-lah".
